Juventus reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Edinson Cavani at the end of the summer transfer window.

The striker faces added competition at Manchester United this season after the club brought Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

Cavani has since lost his number seven shirt to the Portuguese star and it also has sparked speculation over his own future at Old Trafford.

And according to Calciomercato, the 34-year-old was offered to the Serie A giants, despite only signing a new one-year deal at Old Trafford back in May.

Ronaldo’s departure from the club left them short of a forward and they eventually re-signed Moise Kean from Everton.

It is claimed though that Juventus ‘never took Cavani into consideration’ due to the Uruguayan striker’s high wages.

The striker is on a £250,000 a week deal in Manchester and the Serie A side are in a difficult economic situation at present.

Cavani enjoyed a successful debut season at the Red Devils, scoring 17 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

However, it is expected he will now be behind Ronaldo in the pecking order and could become more of an option off the bench.

Juventus boss Max Allegri was reportedly left fuming after the club allowed Ronaldo to join former United.

He reportedly told club hierarchy that ‘these were not the agreements’ when he accepted a proposal to re-join the club.

They also signed Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo this summer, but improvements to the squad have not been to the extent expected for a side that scraped a fourth place finish last season.
