A police K9 in Florida is being praised for his efforts in apprehending a suspect who fled during a traffic stop in New Port Richey.

Deputy Nick Carmack with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office stopped a red Nissan Rogue on Tuesday morning when two suspects fled, leaving a child in the backseat.

Carmack’s body camera captured the intense moment he let his K9 partner Shep out of the car to get the suspect, who appeared to hop a fence into a backyard.

Carmack yells for Shep to ‘get him’ as the dog chases after the man. The suspects runs around a house, but isn’t able to get away from the dog who lunges at him and bites him. The dog drags the suspect to the ground as he screams in pain.

‘Get him, Shep,’ Carmack yells, as he runs over to the dog.

As the officer handcuffs the suspect he pats Shep, telling him he did a good job.

‘Good boy, you got him,’ Carmack says, eventually getting his K9 partner to let go of the suspect.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 28-year-old James Miller. They said Miller and another suspect jumped out of the Nissan and ran when Carmack stopped them.

Miller was medically cleared and arrested. The second suspect was apprehended by Deputy Rob Wilkins and his K9 partner Knox.

Both men were charged with grand theft auto, fleeing to elude, child abuse and criminal mischief. Miller was also charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.

This isn’t the first time K9 Shep has been praised for taking down a suspect. In February, a video went viral of the dog helping Carmack nab a man who fled from a stolen vehicle.
