The businessman went on to pass away after just 14 months of marriage, and the legal battle concerning his fortune stretched all the way to the Supreme Court.

The model had also developed issues with substance abuse at the time, and Kapoor was implicated in her wrongful death trials following her passing.

The doctor was also accused of prescribing Smith with addictive medications in the years prior to her passing.

Kapoor, along with the model’s boyfriend Howard K. Stern and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, who was a member of her medical team, were charged with multiple felonies for allegedly conspiring to provide prescription drugs to an addict.

Although Stern and Eroshevich were convicted on the charges laid against them, Kapoor was ultimately acquitted.

The feature’s producers are currently conducting a search for an actress to portray Smith, and the rest of the cast is also being filled out.

Physical production on Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, which will be helmed by writer-director Thane Economou, is scheduled to begin in Toronto this coming spring.

The upcoming biographical feature currently does not have a prospective premiere date.
