Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff looks almost unrecognizable at the Met Gala

Kamala Harris’ model stepdaughter Ella Emhoff made sure her Met Gala debut went off with a bang on Monday night, when she put on an incredibly glamorous display in a sheer red ensemble – complete with a stunning makeover that left her looking almost unrecognizable.

The 22-year-old, who is signed to Gigi Hadid’s modeling agency IMG, proved herself more than capable of holding her own alongside some of the industry’s biggest stars when she stepped out at the star-studded event – which she attended without her boyfriend Samuel Hine.

Ella, who is known for favoring more funky fashion looks, eschewed a more traditional gown, instead opting for a skin-tight red shirt with a sheer pattern across her abdomen and arms, and a glittery panel over her stomach and breasts.

She paired the figure-hugging shirt with some baggy shiny red pants which were tied up at the waist and tight around the ankles, finishing her ensemble off with some comfortable-looking red sneakers.

The model and knitwear designer – who is the daughter of Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff and his first wife Kerstin – typically opts for a barely-there natural makeup look, however she underwent an incredibly glamorous makeover for the Met Gala.

Choosing to go without her signature wire-rimmed glasses, she styled her curly hair in a sleek straight ‘do that flicked up slightly above her shoulders.

Her tresses were pulled back behind her ears, allowing Ella to show off her sparkly makeup look – which featured glittering gems around her eyes, a bold brow, and a slick of mascara.

She also had highlighter on her cheekbones to emphasize her angular features and wore some pale pink lip gloss to complete the look.

Upon her entrance to the event, she added a matching red face mask to her outfit in keeping with the strict COVID regulations that were put in place ahead of the Met Gala – where all guests were required to show proof of full vaccination status and get tested ahead of their arrival.

Attendees also have to wear masks indoors whenever they are not eating and drinking.

Ella clearly felt right at home at the star-studded event, where she happily posed and waved for the cameras as she made her way up the Met’s iconic steps.

Ella’s appearance at the Met Gala comes at the end of a busy New York Fashion Week for the rising star, who attended several events alongside her magazine editor beau Samuel – including the Thom Browne show on Sunday.

There, the model stepped out in a more typical look, donning a striped blazerm matching long skirt, and a sharp suit and tie – matching her boyfriend, who wore a grey jacket and kilt with his own shirt and tie.

The couple held hands as they made their way out of the fashion show, with Ella sporting a funky stuffed animal-style handbag across her body as they left the event.

Ella has long had a relationship with the designer, having worn his design at a COVID memorial shortly before President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January, where she quickly cemented her status as a style star thanks to her quirky look.

The model attended the inauguration as the step-daughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, who she calls, ‘Momala’, and she signed with major modeling agency IMG just weeks later, having generated a huge social media buzz with her appearance.

Three weeks later, she made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week, walking for designer Proenza Schouler – a brand for which she also modeled on Wednesday,

In July, she made her couture debut at the Balenciaga show in Paris in front of the likes of Kanye West.

Emhoff is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York City, where she lives.

Little is known about her beau Hine, 27, who is a senior associate editor at GQ magazine. He’s written a profile on John Mayer, which he called his favorite piece in an interview with Grailed.

He told the outlet that he grew in Chicago in a ‘prototypical sheltered suburban childhood experience’ before moving to New York.

‘I was in college during what I guess was the height of the #menswear era, and I read all the blogs, and was basically like, I could do that.

‘So I convinced a super fly English professor – shoutout Gage McWeeny – to let me do an independent study on fashion and I wrote some silly essays on, like, Oscar Wilde and fit pics. It was kind of insane that my conclusion from that was “I should get paid to do this stuff,” but here we are.’
