  • He had a good 20-minute scratch before looking slightly sheepish on film

Australians are used to kangaroos hopping in to public parks and hanging out at their family lunch.

But one family didn’t expect the muscled marsupial to start scratching his lower body in the middle of a picnic spot barbeque area.

The animal looked very content addressing his itch in full view of bemused members of the public in the Perth national park.

‘My husband and I went for a walk at John Forest National Park and stopped for a bite to eat at the tavern. The Roos are friendly and visit the tables,’ the woman who filmed the odd sight said.

‘I was trying to get a pic of a smaller one that was visiting the toilets and after walking around to other entrance for the shot, I saw this big guy.’

People including a young girl and her father barely batted an eyes as they walked past the kangaroo going about its business.

It took more than 20 seconds for the marsupial to address his itch as he vigourously scratched at his undercarriage.

Only at the end did he look up slightly sheepishly, perhaps realising his significant audience.

But the carefree mammal soon got over his self-consciousness and merely licked his lips instead of making a hasty exit.
