  • The pair is suspected of taking property from a home in Mayetta on Friday night 

Two people, including one who was covered in mud, were arrested in connection with a burglary in Kansas after leading police on a huge search.

Eric Fernandez, 30, and Chelsea Ray, 25, both from Topeka, are facing burglary, trespassing, and felony obstruction charges over the incident on Friday night.

The Kansas highway patrol and the Jackson Co. Sheriff’s Office posted images of Fernandez, who was covered from head to toe in mud as he tried to hide in a creek to avoid escape and was eventually captured on Saturday afternoon.

Members of the sheriff’s office, the highway patrol, K-9s and aircraft had assisted in the search for the two suspects, WIBW reported. 

Jackson Co. Sheriff Tim Morse claimed that the pair is suspected of taking property from a home south of Mayetta Friday night.

Neighbors later approached them and they made their getaway in an SUV, which became stuck on a private residence.

They then caused a police manhunt that last into the night. A witness saw the pair and deputies caught Chelsea Ray on Highway 

Early Saturday afternoon someone reported seeing the duo and deputies caught Chelsea Ray just east of Highway 75 on 134th Road. 

Fernandez was later caught near a creek close by. Both suspects are being held in the Jackson County Jail and are facing burglary, trespassing, and felony obstruction charges.
