Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon mock trailer for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix doco

Karl Stefanovic has earned a reputation for being an outspoken critic of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

And Karl and his co-host Allison Langdon couldn’t stifle their laughter after watching the trailer for the royal couple’s new self-titled Netflix documentary on Friday.

Clearly unimpressed with what they saw, the Today stars both grimaced before bursting into a chuckle.

They then read out some viewer comments from Facebook, which included both positive and negative responses.

Seemingly unable to maintain any interest in Harry and Meghan’s latest venture, Karl then changed the topic to the World Cup and he Ally proceeded to chat about one of the games for a while.

Harry and Meghan’s long-awaited Netflix show promises to include interviews with ‘family and friends who’ve never spoken publicly’ before, as the Royal Family braces for more Sussex ‘truth bombs’ after the explosive new trailer hints at fresh royal attacks.

Netflix said the six-part reality series will tell the story of the Duke and Duchess’s relationship as it’s never been told before, including revelations from friends and relatives who have previously avoided speaking about their ‘whirlwind romance’.

The $100million docuseries will also include interviews with historians and journalists who ‘dissect how media influenced Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royal family and the Commonwealth at large’.

Back in September Karl called the former Suits actress a ‘D-grade celebrity’ – slightly misquoting claims made by ABC chair Ita Buttrose on rival morning show Studio 10.

He spoke out during a live cross with 9News correspondent Tracy Vo, who was reporting from Manchester, England, where Meghan and Prince Harry were due to attend a youth summit this week.

During her report, Vo summarised the couple’s itinerary in the UK and explained there were ‘no official plans’ for them to meet with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, or with the Queen or Prince Charles at Balmoral.

An unimpressed Karl remarked: ‘Ita Buttrose said they’ve turned into D-grade celebrities. That’s about right, isn’t it?’

Vo replied: ‘Well, we’ve been hearing here locally as well, guys, that some people say they’re not welcome here.

‘There’s a real divide in that support for Prince Harry and Meghan, so we’ll see how tomorrow pans out.’

Buttrose hadn’t actually called the Sussexes ‘D-grade’ celebrities during her appearance on Studio 10 last week, per Media Diary, but did say Meghan was ‘just a celebrity’ and accused her of making ‘provocative statements’ to attract attention.

‘I don’t want to be unkind, but she’s just a celebrity. There’s nothing wrong with being a celebrity, but she’s one of many – whereas once, she was a princess of the realm. [Now] she goes on about her business of being a celebrity,’ Buttrose had said.

In August, Karl also scoffed while discussing the Duchess of Sussex’s claims about a ‘fire scare’ in her son Archie’s bedroom.

He was wholly unsympathetic after listening to her describe the distressing incident on her Archetypes podcast for Spotify.

Meghan said she was left shaken after her then-newborn son’s nursery caught on fire during the Sussexes’ tour of South Africa in 2019.

The baby wasn’t in the room at the time, but Meghan said she was so rattled that she struggled to attend a royal engagement later that day.

Karl chuckled as he tried to make sense of Meghan’s reaction, facetiously asking his co-host Allison Langdon: ‘So, just to get this right, the baby’s, what, not even there?’

‘No… the nanny had taken the baby from the room before the fire ignited,’ Langdon replied.

‘But… so then, the baby’s not there when the fire catches, right? And because the baby wasn’t there, she was going to have difficulties going to a function? Oh, my God,’ he said, rolling his eyes.

Ally attempted to show some compassion for Meghan, reminding Karl the Duchess must have felt vulnerable as a new mother in a strange country.

Karl burst into laughter before calling out Langdon for faking sympathy.

‘That is not you talking. You are a woman who says “grow a set”. That’s what you would say normally,’ he said.

Ally nodded and agreed she was being slightly disingenuous.

In her podcast, Meghan relived the moment Archie narrowly escaped a fire in his bedroom during the Sussexes’ tour of South Africa – and spoke of her frustration that she immediately had to do another official engagement.

The drama unfolded when a heater in Archie’s bedroom caught fire, setting the nursery alight.

Fortunately, four-and-a-half month old Archie was downstairs with his nanny, who had gone ‘to get a snack’.

But Meghan spoke of the stress the ordeal had on her as a new mother, telling the podcast: ‘In that amount of time that [the nanny] went downstairs, the heater in the nursery caught on fire. There was no smoke detector.

‘There was this moment where I’m standing on a tree stump and I’m giving this speech to women and girls, and we finish the engagement, we get in the car and they say there’s been a fire at the residence. What? There’s been a fire in the baby’s room,’ Meghan said.

‘We came back. And, of course, as a mother, you go, ”Oh, my God, what?” Everyone’s in tears, everyone’s shaken. And what do we have to do? Go out and do another official engagement? I said, “This doesn’t make any sense.”‘
