Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner are tipped to replace The Block’s Sara Vale and husband Hayden

The Block couple Sara Vale and husband Hayden have gained a reputation as the reality show’s most ‘villainous’ duo.

From claiming the show is ‘rigged’, to blaming their negative image on ‘bad editing’, the couple have sent shock waves through The Block with their outlandish behaviour.

And, it appears things have gotten so bad that Channel Nine Today show hosts Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner have been brought in to replace the embattled duo… temporarily that is.

Desperate measures: Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner (pictured) have been tipped to replace controversial Block contestants Sara Vale and husband Hayden… who have threatened to quit the ‘rigged’ show. Also pictured: Block host Scott Cam (left)

In a preview of The Block on the Today show on Wednesday morning, titled ‘Surprise contestants’, Block host Scott Cam says he has a ‘reserve team’ ready to go should the Sara and Hayden ‘choose to leave’ the reality show.

Karl, 44, and Georgie, 48, are then shown wearing hard hats and special hi-vis orange work shirts, as Scott says: ‘I can’t believe that you guys have volunteered to be the replacement couple!’

To much laughter, Georgie replies with: ‘Right on cue, Scott!’

The morning show duo’s hardhats have been customised with their names, while Karl’s work shirt has ‘Karlinator’ sewed into it, and Georgie’s has ‘Georginator’.

Karl and Georgie are then shown playfully jostling each other as Scott leads them around the Gatwick hotel work site in Melbourne’s St Kilda, before they meet other contestants on the show, including Jess and Norm.

Scott asks what Karl and Georgie make of their ‘new project’ – Sara and Hayden’s unfinished apartment.

Georgie replies: ‘I’m liking it, I’m liking it. I’m liking the dimensions, I’m liking the natural light, Karl.’

‘The light is perfect,’ says Karl, as he looks around the room.

‘I’d be going for soft greys, I think, in terms of colour palettes,’ adds Georgie.

To which Scott, 55, replies, ‘Oh, geez.’

On Sunday’s episode, Block contestant Sara threatened to quit the show when her renovation meant she finished in last place for the third week in a row.

And things were no better by Tuesday’s episode, with Sara insisting The Block is ‘rigged’ against her.

Despite being convinced to stay another week after her meltdown, the mother-of-one was livid when she and husband Hayden lost a caravan renovation challenge.

Jess and Norm’s surf-themed mobile home beat out Sara and Hayden’s Palm Springs rock ‘n’ roll-themed caravan.

The judges were underwhelmed as Sara and Hayden didn’t seem to change much in the space other than shopping for retro decor, and neglected to paint the interior.

‘Yeah I don’t know how Jess and Norm won,’ Sara snapped after the result was announced.

‘Ours was awesome,’ she complained. ‘Mate, this competition’s rigged.’
