Karl Stefanovic loses it at ‘whingers’ and ‘woke’ councils

Karl Stefanovic ripped into Australia’s ‘woke’ councils who are enabling ‘whingers’ in over-policing local neighbourhoods.

The Today host spoke to Gold Coast mother, Mandy Overton, on Thursday morning, who was threatened with a $750 fine if she didn’t move a basketball hoop off a nature strip in front of her home.

Ms Overton said a council official knocked on their door and told them to move the hoop or face the whopping penalty, with Stefanovic lamenting the death of the tight-knit Aussie community.

‘Can I say something here? This is not politically correct at all. I don’t know what has happened to Australia,’ the Channel Nine host declared.

‘We have people around in our neighbourhood now who are just whingers and whiners. They have nothing better to do with their day than complain to the local council, who are so woke and left that it passes on to us in the form of complaints and blah, blah, blah, I’m just sick of it.’

Ms Overton said the council had received complaints about her children playing basketball on their own driveway, saying the ball is often bouncing onto the road and the kids are noisy.

Her family placed the basketball hoop on the nature strip out the front of their home, so they have a flatter surface to play on – but the result was a council officer attending their home.

‘I got a knock at my door on Tuesday. The council officer came to the house and just basically said, if you don’t move your basketball hoop by Friday, you will get $750 fine,’ the mother told Today.

‘Not only that, but she also mentioned too many kids playing with my basketball hoop. Which I don’t think that’s a problem. Kids being kids and playing.

‘Also, they were saying if an accident would happen it would be on their call because it’s on their land. They’re just playing. I don’t see what is the problem. They’re getting out. Getting off iPads. Getting sociable with all the kids.’

Stefanovic replied ‘hear, hear’, before tearing into the ‘woke’ local councils.

‘What’s happened to Australia? You can’t have a basketball hoop on the median strip?’ he asked.

‘I’m sick of it. I don’t know what has happened to this great country. Everyone whines now.

‘It’s local councils who are awful. Just fix the pot holes bros, as Kyrgios would say. Just do council stuff. Don’t get in our lives.’

Co-host Alison Langdon said the threats were counterproductive to what was best for Aussie kids.

‘We’re trying to get kids outside. We want them to interact with each other and do stuff and be physical. When we do that’s what happens,’ she said.

‘If you are one of the whinging, whining people, you know who you are. Give us a break,’ Stefanovic added, before Landon joked: ‘Karl is coming for you’.
