The family photo comes after Karl reflected on the Ubergate scandal from March 2018, that saw his phone chat with Peter recorded by an Uber driver and shared.

Appearing on the Not An Overnight Success podcast with Gus Worland this week, Karl revealed that no matter ‘how drunk’ he is, he’s ‘always aware’ of people recording his conversations, whether at a pub or even in people’s own homes.

Karl also admitted that the recording of their phone chat on speakerphone by the driver was ‘pretty traumatic’ for Peter.

Asked by Gus if he checks whether he’s on speakerphone in the wake of Ubergate, Karl began by revealing how devastating the aftermath was for his brother Peter.

‘You know, I think that was… God that was pretty traumatic for my brother that stuff. We talk probably three or four times a day, we’re very close,’ he said.

‘That should have been something that was just nothing. But it’s a sign of how much under the pump we were. Who would have thought an Uber driver [would have recorded our chat],’ he continued with a laugh. ‘How unlucky can you get?’

Karl went on to reveal that he still ‘talks freely’ despite knowing that he’s being recorded.

‘I talk freely, I am who I am. I’m aware… I’ve been at pubs and stuff and people have been recording conversations. I’ve been at people’s own homes and they’ve been recording conversations,’ he said.

‘It’s a sign of… for whatever reason, people will utilise access to people in the public eye and it’s just another thing you’ve got to be aware of that’s all,’ he concluded.

Back in March 2018, an Uber driver transporting Peter revealed details of a conversation the TV journalist had while on speakerphone with Karl.

After selling his story to New Idea magazine, the driver revealed Karl had been criticising his former Today co-host Georgie Gardner, 52, during the private conversation.

Shock confession: Karl went on to reveal that he still 'talks freely' despite knowing that he's being recorded. 'I've been at pubs and stuff and people have been recording conversations. I've been at people's own homes and they've been recording conversations,' he said

‘He said she didn’t have enough opinions and he wanted her to step up,’ the driver told the magazine at the time.

‘He actually sounded angry and said he was going to start pushing hard and that she needed to do that if she wanted to stay on the show.’

According to the anonymous driver, Karl also accused Channel Nine bosses of being ‘out of touch’ with the public.
