Karla Souza reveals she was raped by a director in Mexico

Karla Souza has revealed that she was raped by a director earlier on in her career.

The 32-year-old How To Get Away With Murder star made the shocking admission during a CNN en Español interview on Tuesday.

She told host Carmen Aristegui that she was raped during a shoot in her native Mexico but chose to not name the culprit.

Souza explained that after a month of director’s advances and being on the receiving end of their ‘total abuse of power’ she felt no other choice but to ‘give in.’

The actress who plays Laurel Castillo in the highly popular ABC series began tearing up as she said: ‘I ended up giving in to him. 

‘[I let him] kiss me, to touch me in ways I did not want him to touch me and in one of those instances, he attacked me violently and yes, he raped me.’ 

She explained that at the time she was separated from fellow castmates a she as staying at a different hotel where only herself and the director had rooms.

Souza said: ‘He knocked at my door saying he wanted to go over some scenes and I thought it’s 2 am, it’s not appropriate and it’s something that shouldn’t be happening.’

 She claims that the director had knocked on her door again but she once again refused to open it.

However the decision seemingly had an effect on her work as she said he ‘decided not to shoot my scene and then he suddenly started to humiliate me in front of the others on the set.’

‘This was the psychological control that he held over me.’

The revelation comes amid months of accusations of sexual assault and harassment throughout Hollywood and the resulting #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. 

Souza is a veteran actress as she landed her first role as a child star on Aspen Extreme back in 1993. 

She has moved on to big roles in Spanish-language films Nosotros los Nobles from 2013 and Suave Patria from 2012.

Since 2014 she has starred in Shonda Rhimes produced drama How To Get Away With Murder alongside Viola Davis.
