Kate Garraway leaves Ben Shephard in hysterics with an ’embarrassing’ Good Morning Britain blunder: ‘I think I need a lie down!’
Kate Garraway left her Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard in hysterics on Thursday, as he returned to the show following his summer break.
The presenter, 56, suffered the ’embarrassing’ gaffe during an interview with Doctor Who star Jemma Redgrave, after being led to believe that she was playing an octopus in her new stage show Octopolis.
The blunder left Ben struggling to hide his laughter, joking he ‘needed a lie-down’ despite this being his first day back on the show.
Jemma, who is set to reprise her role as Kate Stewart in Doctor Who next year, was discussing her upcoming stage role.
Host Kate stated that she would be playing an ‘octopus on-stage,’ claiming she was ‘very intrigued to see that.’

Trying to hide his laughter, Ben then explained that Kate was actually playing a scientist who looked after the creature, rather than the octopus itself.
Kate then admitted she’d been unnerved about the concept since it was brought up in the GMB morning meeting, leading Ben to admit: ‘It’s only my first day back as well. How has anyone coped?’
Kate then joked: ‘They are all in therapy!’ while Ben added: ‘I need a lie down!’
After finishing the interview, Kate confessed that she was ‘slightly embarrassed about the octopus error.’
It comes after Kate shared an update on her husband Derek Draper’s progress as she attended the National Television Awards on Tuesday.
Derek was diagnosed with coronavirus at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 and left in a life-threatening condition.
Doctors put him in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator and he was in hospital for 13 months.
He has been seriously ill since 2020 and has been in and out of hospital ever since, relying on the use of a wheelchair.

She said: ‘He’s doing alright. There’s been no dramatic progress I’m afraid but we keep ploughing on.
‘Derek and the kids are all watching at home but we’ve got it on record too to watch together. I’m just glad I didn’t fall over.’
Last week, Kate revealed her husband’s airport ordeal in which he was stuck between passport gates for an hour.
Kate and her Good Morning Britain co-host Richard Madeley, 67, were speaking to Manchester bombing survivor Martin Hibbert on the degrading treatment of disabled people on Wednesday’s show, when Kate recalled a shocking moment regarding her own husband.
Kate told of the shock moment her Covid-stricken husband became trapped between the automatic ePassport gates after being unable to free himself, telling the show that he was essentially ‘stuck in no man’s land’.
