Kate Middleton and Prince William have been given a ‘huge boost’ by the Sussexes’ retreat from the limelight and are relieved by the ‘warm reception’ they’ve been receiving, royal expert claims

  • Commentator Kate Nicholl said Kate and William thrilled at warm reception
  • Said Prince Harry has been left ‘heartbroken’ following retreat from public eye

A royal expert has claimed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been given a ‘boost’ following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s step down as senior royals, but thinks Prince Harry has secretly been left ‘heartbroken’.

Commentator Kate Nicholl claimed Kate Middleton, 38, and Prince William, 37, were thrilled at the warm reception they got during a royal engagement in Bradford last week.

And indeed a beaming Kate appeared extra animated when she arrived at Buckingham Palace alongside William last night, for their first major joint engagement without Harry, 35.

Meanwhile Harry, who returned to Canada to be with Meghan Markle, 38, and eight-month-old Archie, has been ‘putting on a brave face amid heartbreak’, Katie claims.

Royal commentator Katie Nicholl has told Ok! Magazine that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, seen at Buckingham Palace last night, have been given a ‘boost’ following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s step down

Speaking to Ok!, she said of the Cambridges: ‘The warm reception William and Kate received has given them a huge boost. They’ve stuck to the tried-and-tested approach, promoting a united Royal family and it’s a success.’

Speaking about Harry, she continued: ‘He might be putting a brave face on but I suspect Harry’s heartbroken. He’s a sensitive soul and he’s a sweetheart.’

‘The past week must have been incredibly hard. With William busy performing Royal duties, he’s not got his brother by his side right now and his father, Prince Charles, has returned to Scotland.’

Last night’s engagement, which marked William’s first solo reception at the palace, comes after his brother Prince Harry, 35, flew to Canada last night to be with Meghan Markle, 38, after a deal was reached on their departure from the royal family.

On Sunday night the Duke of Sussex has said he is ‘taking a leap of faith’ in stepping back from his life as a member of the royal family, but ‘there really was no other option’.

Harry gave an emotional speech, where he told the ‘truth’ about leaving royal duties behind in a bid for a ‘more peaceful life’ for his family.

The duke has attended his first public event since the announcement was released on Saturday that said from the spring, the duke and duchess will stop using HRH, spend the majority of their time living in Canada, and pay back the taxpayers’ money spent renovating their Frogmore home.

He told invited guests: ‘What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.

‘Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.

‘I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am.

‘But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life.’
