Most of us might don a favourite jumper or comfortable t-shirt when whipping up a festive feast, but the Duchess of Cambridge plumped for a rather more glamorous outfit for her turn in a Christmas kitchen.

Kate, 37, wore a £1,455 designer dress when she joined Prince William, Mary Berry and Nadiya Hussain to bake roulades for BBC TV special A Berry Royal Christmas.

The eye-catching red midi is by Alessandra Rich, a designer loved both by Kate and her younger sister Pippa, 36.

Fortunately for royal fans, the dress, which perfectly complimented Prince William’s maroon jumper, is still available to buy on Net-a-Porter.

The royals joined former Bake Off presenter Mary and previous winner Nadiya to make the treats for a private party at the Rosewood Hotel, London, last month.

The event, which celebrated emergency services workers, nurses and armed forces personnel, among others, was a private occasion and these are the first photos seen of the royals.

It is one of a number of secret engagements that were captured by Shine TV for the upcoming BBC programme.

Kate owns another Alessandra Rich creation – a £1,750 navy and white polka dot midi – which she has worn on a number of previous occasions, including for Prince Charles’s official 70th birthday portraits last year.

Kate later wore the dress for a visit to Second World War codebreaking headquarters Bletchley Park, near Milton Keynes, in May.

The style was famously worn by Meghan Markle’s close friend and former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in May last year and became an A-list favourite over the summer.

Pippa Middleton wore the same dress in a different colourway for nephew Prince Louis’ Christening in July last year.
