Kate Middleton makes surprise appearance at the Nutcracker

It seems that the Duchess of Cambridge is as busy as any mother pre-Christmas.

Just hours after joining her family at the Queen’s annual pre-Christmas lunch, Kate made a surprise appearance at the Royal Opera House.

The mother-of-two was spotted at the evening performance of the Royal Ballet’s Nutcracker on Wednesday.

Dressed in the same £95.99 Zara cape she wore to the dinner the Duchess looked preened and polished as she made her way into the theatre.

Seen just underneath her cape was a dress by the label responsible for her wedding dress, and Alexander McQueen petal print ruffle dress.

Despite being five months pregnant with her third child, Kate opted for an elegant pair of black suede heels for the performance.

Following the performance, the 35-year-old spent time chatting to dancers in the show who were delighted to meet their royal fan.

Meaghan Hinkis, a soloist with The Royal Ballet, shared a photo on her Instagram account following their special visit.

Captioning the snap she wrote: ‘To say I was excited to meet the Duchess, is a colossal understatement.’

Deputy stage manager at the theatre known only as sazzle_mcdazzle shared an additional photo of the royal from the back.

She wrote: ‘All I want for Christmas is K Midd’s hair and cape.’

The Duchess had spent the afternoon alongside Prince William and their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte at Buckingham Palace.

The family had attended the Queen’s annual pre-Christmas lunch held each year on December 20.

The tradition provides the Queen, as well as other immediate family members, to catch up with more distant relatives during the festive period.

The dinner is held in particular for those who do not receive an invitation to Sandringham in Norfolk for Christmas.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are regulars at the Norfolk celebrations arriving on Christmas Eve for three days of deeply traditional festivities, including a bracing walk to church on December 25th and a turkey lunch.
