Kate Middleton stuns in customized $1,200 Emilia Wickstead collared dress during visit to Harvard

Kate Middleton looked elegant in a customized $1,200 Emilia Wickstead long-sleeve blue collared dress as she visited the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University on Friday morning.

The Princess of Wales, 40, was spotted arriving at the Cambridge, Massachusetts, institute solo, as she kicked off the third day of her and Prince William’s whirlwind US tour.

Kate dressed chic in the blue and black-patterned, mid-length gown. The original dress costs $1,201 but doesn’t come with sleeves, so it appears that she had it altered.

Described as a ‘versatile dress that transitions effortlessly from the office wear to event dressing with minimal effort’ on its website, the pencil dress features a ‘houndstooth print that accents the tailored fit of the piece.’

Kate was all smiles as she entered the building, stopping to wave at the hoards of supporters who spent hours standing in the cold to get a glimpse of the Princess.

Kate and her husband, William, also 40, are currently in America for the Earthshot Prize Awards – an event created by William back in 2020, which awards five people each year for their contributions to environmentalism. It will take place later today at MGM Music Hall in Boston.

The couple have certainly had a busy trip so far – they attended an Earthshot launch on Wednesday, before they enjoyed an evening of sports at a Boston Celtics game at TD Garden, where they sat courtside  and joined 20,000 other fans in cheering on the players as they went head-to-head against the Miami Heat.

Then, on Thursday, they met with the CEO of Greentown Labs and the President of the Northeast Clean Energy Council to discuss how the companies are ‘contributing to global efforts,’ before they headed to Piers Park in Boston to look at the rising sea levels in the area.

At each stop, Kate has paraded a series of fashionable looks – beginning from the moment she and William stepped off the plane at Boston Logan International Airport, where she opted for a $3,000 Alexander McQueen midnight blue pants suit over a dark turtleneck top.

Kate gave a subtle nod to her husband’s late mother as she arrived in the States – by sporting a pair of earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana.

Diana was spotted wearing the glittering pair of two-tiered flower-shaped earrings on several occasions before her death in 1997 – including when she attended the Met Gala in New York City in 1996 and during a visit to Canada in 1991. And now, they’ve been passed down to Kate.

At the Earthshot launch, Kate made a sartorial statement about climate change in a green plaid Burberry dress, which she paired with a with matching Alexander McQueen coat and Mulberry bag.

When she headed to the basketball game, she donned a vintage blue Chanel jacket, slim fitting black trousers, and matching black heels.

On Thursday, she was seen in two different outfits – the first, was a stylish Roland Mouret burgundy pants suit with a pink tie-neck blouse underneath and $675 Gianvito Rossi suede pumps.

Kate carried an extravagant Chanel handbag, which is no longer available but originally sold for just over $4,500 in 2015, according to LoveThatBag.ca.

She later switched into a bright orange $790 Gabriela Hearst turtleneck shirt and matching $1,590 skirt. To keep cold amid Boston’s low temperatures, she also put on a long brown Alexander McQueen pea coat. And while the designer jacket seems to be custom-made, a similar one by brand is being sold online for $5,960.

Kate and William’s visit to the US – their first in eight years – came right as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released an explosive trailer for their upcoming Netflix documentary, which is part of their $100 million deal with the streaming giant.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex dropped the teaser on Wednesday morning, in which they shared an incredibly intimate series of never-before-seen images, including several of Meghan crying, while hinting that they are preparing to launch a fresh series of attacks on the royal family.

Harry and Meghan’s trailer release would have been controversy enough for William and Kate to deal with on the second day of their tour – but the trip had already been dramatically overshadowed by a furious race row at Buckingham Palace back home.

Just hours before the Prince and Princess touched down in Boston, his godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, 83, who is a former lady-in-waiting to the Queen, was accused of making racist comments to black domestic abuse campaigner Ngozi Fulani at a Buckingham Palace event set up by Queen Consort Camilla on Tuesday night – which lead to her announcing her resignation on Wednesday.

But despite the scandal, the royal couple seemed in good spirits throughout the trip. Their cheery expressions at each appearance has given away little indication of the many controversies brewing within the Monarchy.

This week, Prince William will also visit the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. There are also plans for the royal couple to meet President Joe Biden on Friday, who will be in Boston on a separate trip.
