Kate Middleton trumps Meghan Markle in YouGov popularity poll

Kate Middleton trumps Meghan Markle in popularity poll, while Prince Harry pushes past Prince William – but it’s the Queen that takes the top spot

  • The results are in for the most favoured members of the British royal family
  • Research carried out by YouGov found the Queen to come out on top this year
  • The Duchess of Cambridge beat Meghan Markle in the popularity stakes

The results are in for the most favoured members of the British royal family – and it’s good news for the Queen, who came in at number one.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, was trumped in the YouGov study by the Duchess of Cambridge, 37, who was ranked two places ahead of the former actress at number four.

And while Prince Harry, 34, came in at second place, beating Prince Willliam, 37, both brothers were overtaken this year by their grandmother the Queen, 92, who beat them to the top spot after receiving 72 per cent positive opinion in the poll.

In last year’s research, the Duke of Sussex, 34, was ranked first with 77 per cent but has since slipped to second place.

But the new father is still faring better than his brother, Prince William, 37, in the popularity stakes, according to 9,000 interviews which were conducted between June 2018 and June 2019, placing him at number three.

Still popular! The Duchess of Cambridge, pictured at Royal Ascot in June, with her husband Prince William, has stayed just as favoured as last year’s poll, with 64 per cent positive opinion. William came in at number three, while Kate was number four

Harry received 71 per cent popular opinion, while his sibling remained close behind with 69 per cent positive reaction.

And it looks as though the Duke of Sussex is still a royal favourite as only nine per cent of Brits had negative opinions about him, while 17 per cent were ‘neutral’.

William’s popularity has decreased by four per cent since the last poll, but wife Kate’s has stayed exactly the same at 64 per cent positive opinion.

Yet new mother Meghan seems to be less popular than last year, as she suffered a six per cent drop to come in at sixth place with 49 per cent.

While Meghan also came in sixth place last year, 55 per cent of participants gave the new royal a thumbs up at the time.

Out of the thousands of Brits interviewed, 16 per cent had a negative opinion of the former Suits actress, who was also ranked below Prince Philip.

The Prince of Wales followed closely behind his daughter-in-law Meghan, with 48 per cent of Brits asked recording a positive view of Charles.

Camilla was ranked outside the top ten, with the Duchess of Cornwall coming in at number 11.

But it was Princess Beatrice and her father Prince Andrew who held bottom place out of the 15 royals ranked.

Only 24 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively, of Brits interviewed had a good opinion about the royals.
