Kate Middleton will end maternity leave next week

The Duchess of Cambridge will return to royal duties next week, bringing to an end her six-month maternity leave.

Kate, 36, last attended an official engagement on 22 March – a month before the birth of her youngest son, Prince Louis, in April.

She has made a number of family appearances in the months since, including the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May, but none have been classed as official engagements.

Today it was announced the duchess will make her return to royal duties with a visit to the Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground, London, on Tuesday.

She is also expected to make an appearance the following week to mark World Mental Health Day, a cause close to both her and Prince William.

Days later the royal mother-of-three will be among the guests at the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle on 12 October.

Despite the busy weeks coming up, it is expected the Duchess of Cambridge’s schedule will ultimately be quieter than it was before Prince Louis’ birth.

Announcing the maternity leave earlier this year Kensington Palace did not say when exactly Kate would return to her duties, only that her children would remain her ‘primary focus’ when she did.

It could mean that Prince William, 36, who has been attending events solo over the summer, could continue to be seen in public without his wife.

At the event next week the Duchess of Cambridge will hear more about the work of the Sayers Croft Forest School.

Last year, the institution had over 5,500 visits by schoolchildren from across Westminster and neighbouring boroughs, giving inner city children a unique opportunity to learn about and engage with the natural world.

Kate will see first-hand the positive impact that the Forest School has on children’s emotional and physical wellbeing as she is shown the wildlife garden and meets children involved in exploratory and investigative outdoor activities.
