Kate Middleton’s complexion is the ‘healthiest it’s ever looked’ with ‘peachy fresh’ make-up

The Duchess of Cambridge looked ‘younger and more stylish’ at the Royal Variety Performance last night thanks to a new, curly hairstyle and ‘English rose’ makeup look, experts have revealed.

Kate, 39, dazzled in a green sequin gown by Jenny Packham that she first wore on a 2019 tour of Pakistan as she joined Prince William at the the 94th annual performance, held at the Royal Albert Hall.

Speaking to FEMAIL, Laura Kay, Makeup Artist and Founder of Laura Kay London, explained she let her natural beauty shine through with ‘peachy fresh’ make-up enhanced with cream blush contour which left her complexion looking the ‘healthiest it has ever looked’.

Celebrity hairdresser and brand consultant Tom Smith added Kate’s ‘casual’ curls swept over one shoulder make her look ‘younger and more stylish’.

The mother of-three, who looked positively glowing, donned a pair of £125 gold dangling earrings by Missoma, wearing no other jewellery than her engagement and wedding rings, and carried a simple green custom Jenny Packham clutch bag which complemented her outfit.

Laura explained that the Duchess used a warm cream blush and light bb cream with soft sheer coverage to create a stunning natural look while covering any minor blemishes.

‘Kate is dazzling. She looks like a true English rose with her natural beauty shining through’, she said.

‘Kate’s complexion is the healthiest it has ever looked in my opinion and her skin is flawless. Her skin is peachy fresh likely from the cold crisp air and enhanced with a cream blush contour across her cheekbones.

‘She has kept her makeup fresh with a bb cream (beauty balm) which gives a soft sheer coverage but is great for concealing any minor blemishes.’

Kate opted for a deep brown eyeliner which she smudged and defined her lashes with to create a dramatic eye look which perfectly complimented her dazzling emerald gown.

Femail Style Verdict

After a couple of years of ghastly news, last night brought a joyous moment when the nation sat up and cried: ‘Wowsers, what a curl!’

The Duchess of Cambridge stepped forth at the Royal Variety Performance with a fabulous new side parting and lavish waterfall of curls.

Think Rita Hayworth meets a late ’80s/early ’90s supermodel – plus a massive dose of post-pandemic chic.

Oh, Kate, you pulled a blinder – and thousands of us will be seeking out the heated curlers in her wake. It is a moment she has been rehearsing for across a slow and steady ten years, only now to rise spectacularly to the occasion.

Now the old, safe, sensible Kate has vanished. In her place: Kate the sensation, the switch up in iconography marking a switch up in the seriousness with which she takes her job.

Waity Katie is no more. In her place, Weighty Kate, a global player with the epically glam do to go with it.

‘Overall, it is a very ‘undone’ look Kate is opting for’, she explained. ‘Her eyes are defined with a deep brown eyeliner and the corners are smudged in an outward flick to open them up and to perfectly compliment her evening look.

‘She also has a light silver/white eye shadow above her eyelid which reflects the light and her brows are filled in for high definition.

‘Her eye lashes have defined eyeliner especially underneath as you can see each individual hair is lightly coated in mascara. Kate opted for a glossy red lip to finish the look’.

When it came to her hair, stylist and brand consultant Tom says the Duchess eschewed her usual bouncy blow dry for a more casual and stylish side swept look, making her appear ‘more warm and lighthearted’.

‘This is a completely different hair look for Kate than we have ever seen her wear before, he said. ‘Not only is her hair swept over one shoulder in a clear statement but the texture of her hair is miles away from the traditional glossy blowdry we are used to seeing.’

He explained that the textured look had been carefully constructed to appear natural, giving a ‘much younger, more playful energy’ and that there’s been a ‘shift’ in how Kate’s image.

‘The texture of her curls have been carefully styled in, but has been designed to look almost like it could be her naturally curly hair’, he explained. ‘Her stylist will have used a smaller curling iron, taking fine sections and alternating the direction of the curl.

‘This gives more volume and a softer more natural look. The result gives off a much younger, more playful energy.

‘It’s interesting that the side swept style does not appear to be ‘pinned’ or secured over her shoulder — which would appear more regal and stiff, but instead Kate has simply swept her curls over her shoulder in a much more casual way than we have seen before.

‘There’s been a real shift in how Kate is being presented to us recently, she appears much more warm and lighthearted and looks younger, more stylish and more free. It definitely feels more authentic’.

Kate’s look certainly hit the right note for comedian Alan Carr who joked with Prince William that he was ‘not hitting on his wife’ after complimenting Kate.

Greeting the Royals to the 94th annual performance, which this year was held at the Royal Albert Hall, host Carr said to the duchess: ‘You look absolutely beautiful.’

Addressing the duke, who looked smart in a classic navy suede tuxedo, the comedian added: ‘Sir, I am sure you do not know who I am but I am not hitting on your wife.’

Before the performance, a posy of flowers was presented to the duchess by ten-year-old Poppy Clee and the show programme was given to the duke by ten-year-old Rowan Clarke, who was asked what music he liked by William.

Last year, the charity event was held at the Blackpool Opera House in front of a virtual audience due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Life-President of the Royal Variety charity Laurie Mansfield said after last night’s show: ‘It is fabulous that it is back, doing entertainment for a full audience of 5,000 people. It is just remarkable in these times for the charity, it is a godsend.’ The duke and duchess watched performances by many famous faces including music from Years & Years, James Blunt, Elvis Costello, Gregory Porter and Anne-Marie.

The cast of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Matilda The Musical, who are celebrating ten years in the West End, also performed at the charity event, as did the cast of Moulin Rouge The Musical and Cirque du Soleil.

Celebrating 100 years of Royal patronage, the Queen wrote a letter to the Royal Variety Charity sending her best wishes for the evening. The event is staged to raise money to help those people from the world of entertainment in need of care and assistance.

The Royal Variety Charity also continues to manage its own care home, Brinsworth House in Twickenham.

The nursing and care staff have ensured that the home remains a place of safety, peace, and happiness for retired members of the entertainment industry.

The residents are now back showing off their own theatrical skills and even producing and performing their own stage shows.

On the night, Their Royal Highnesses will meet a number of performers as well as Royal Variety Charity and ITV executives, both before and after the show.
