Kate Middleton’s Erdem dress gets mixed reaction from fans

She rarely puts a foot wrong when it comes to fashion, but this evening the Duchess of Cambridge failed to impress royal fans as she stepped out in a blue Erdem dress in Stockholm.

The pregnant Duchess, 36, opted for a floral patterned velvet dress with bell sleeves and a ruffle around the hem, a departure from her usual choice of shift dresses with clean lines and minimal patterns.

Perhaps not used to seeing her in anything so fussy, surprised fans weren’t sure what to make of the new look with some declaring the Erdem dress she wore to a reception at the Fotografiska Gallery ‘old and frumpy’.

Kate was sporting the British-based designer for a second night running, and many placed the blame on the label rather than the Duchess herself.

‘I think the Duchess of Cambridge looks really frumpy in both Erdem dresses, what happened to her sense of style?’ one fan said, while another rather unkindly compared it to curtain fabric.

Another declared Erdem dresses ‘horrible’ while one tweeted: ‘ Ugh. Is it possible to take out a restraining order on Erdem on behalf of Kate?’.

Kate Middleton stepped out looking stunning in a blue floral velvet Erdem dress in Sweden on Wednesday, but her garnered a mixed reaction on Twitter.

Others compared her dress to ‘soft furnishings’, with one tweeter joking: ‘Kate picks Erdem again! Slightly better than last night’s mustard number… still a little reminiscent of home furnishings though!’.

And some admitted they thought Kate should be taking take tips from her soon-to-be sister-in-law Meghan.

However others had more kind words to say, writing: ‘Even though it wasn’t everyone’s favourite dress, only she could pull it off’.

‘One more reception, a beautiful velvet dress very appropriate for pregnancy, but short, some elegant shoes. The hair always well composed, very beautiful’, another complimented.

While some followers questioned the Duchess' sense of style, others even branded the look 'frumpy' and advised the 36-year-old to take tips from Prince Harry's fiance Meghan Markle

On Tuesday the Duchess wore a £1,945 saffron yellow gown by Erdem which won her much praise due to its uncharacteristically daring nature for the usually safe Royal.

Kate, who is six months pregnant, is on a four day tour, visiting the Norwegian and Sweden’s Royal families with Prince William, 35.

After spending the past two days in Stockholm with Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, the Cambridges will depart for Oslo tomorrow where they will be greeted by Crown Prince Haakon and his wife, Mette-Marit.
