Kate Miller-Heidke will represent Australia at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel. 

The 37-year-old singer-songwriter beat out nine other musical acts for the coveted spot, and she reacted in shock and excitement when the announcement was made on Saturday night. 

In Australia’s first-ever live decider on SBS, fans voted for their favourite song and artist after the ten acts performed on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Kate left audiences in awe with her emotional entry song, Zero Gravity, a ballad which Live Decider host Joel Creasey described as ‘pop genius’.  

‘This is an historic moment,’ he further claimed.  

Meanwhile, Joel’s SBS co-host Myf Warhurst stated that the musician was ‘so incredible and so versatile’.

In addition to her astonishing vocals, Kate stunned on the stage in an elaborate Frozen-style gown which was complemented by an icicle-style headpiece. 

The blonde beat out electronic duo Electric Field, who placed as runner-up during the live decider. 

Meanwhile, indie pop band Sheppard came in third place during the live decider, with professional judges and the general public having equal sway in the decision. 

Kate was one of the most famous entrants in this year’s live decider, best known for her 2008 track Caught In The Growd.

Australia is a relatively recent entrant to the Eurovision Song Contest. 

Jessica Mauboy performed at the event in 2014 as an interval act.

The following year, Australia was allowed to officially enter the singing competition , with the nation sending Guy Sebastian to perform his track, Tonight Again. 

In 2016, Australia’s Dami Im placed second in Eurovision, wowing the world with her song, Sound Of Silence.
