Home and Away star Kate Ritchie’s husband ‘fails to appear in court on a drink-driving charge’ – as more details of his alleged offence are revealed

  • Stuart Broughton Webb was pulled him over after running a red light last month
  • Allegedly blew 0.083 blood alcohol level and had a cancelled drivers licence
  • Charged with mid-range drink-driving and driving with a cancelled licence

Home and Away star Kate Ritchie’s husband Stuart Webb was allegedly caught drink-driving on a Tuesday afternoon just blocks from their $1.75million Sydney home.

Stuart Broughton Webb, 38, is accused of blowing a 0.083 blood alcohol level when he was pulled over after running a red light between 4.11 pm and 4.20pm on March 26.

Webb was due to face Waverley Local Court on Tuesday where the drink-driving matter was listed to be heard, but his solicitor asked for it to be adjourned to next month.

Court papers revealed officers stopped Webb’s Subaru Levorg on Avoca Street in Randwick, in Sydney’s east.

They also discovered his driver’s licence was cancelled.

Webb has not been required to enter a plea to the charges of drink-driving and driving with a suspended licence.

It is the first time he has been charged with either offence, court papers stated.

If convicted, the former Sydney Roosters and St George Dragons player faces a further six-month licence suspension for drink-driving charge, plus up to 12 months in prison for driving on a cancelled licence.

The court may also choose to install an interlock system in his car, which would connect to the ignition and require a blood alcohol content of zero to start the car.

The couple have weathered rumours of a split for the last couple of years.

The 40-year-old actress and Webb married in 2010 and she gave birth to their daughter, Mae, in 2014.

But in October last year, Kate told The Australia Women’s Weekly that although at times she is ‘not sure’ what is going on in her life, she and Stuart are happy and committed to their marriage.

‘Of course [split rumours] are wrong… it is baseless. But I don’t want to say any more about it because it will breathe life into it again,’ she said.

‘When you ask me how does that affect me, the truth is I have had to learn how to not let if affect me.

‘I think good luck to anybody who thinks that they know what is going on in my life because there are times when I am not sure – and I don’t mean that in a negative way.’

Webb is due to face court again on May 7.
