Kate wore earrings borrowed from the Queen for Lindo Wing exit

From her immaculately coiffed hair to her bespoke Jenny Packham dress, the Duchess Of Cambridge left no detail to chance as she left The Lindo Wing yesterday – and even incorporated a sweet tribute to the Queen.

The new mother accessorised her red shift dress with a pair of diamond and pearl drop earrings belonging to  Her Majesty as she made her first appearance with her newborn prince.

Both Kate and the Queen have chosen the earrings before to wear on particularly special occasions.

The Queen sported the earrings for a service of thanksgiving and carriage procession during her Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012.

And Kate chose them for a day of engagements in The Netherlands in 2016, her first official solo overseas visit without Prince William.

The accessories took centre stage when the royal paused in front of Vermeer’s  famous painting The Girl With The Pearl Earring at the Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague.

As well as her nod to the Queen, Kate yesterday seemed to make a subtle but sweet tribute to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

Her red Jenny Packham dress was very similar to the similar outfit the princess wore when she left the same hospital after giving birth to Prince Harry in 1984.

The new mother wore a long red coat by Jan van Velden, with a white blouse trimmed with a scarlet ribbon showing underneath.

It was a hat trick for designer Jenny Packham yesterday, getting the nod of the third time to design Kate’s ‘going home’ outfit after giving birth.

The new mother, 36, stunned in a red knee-length shift dress with a pretty white lace collar – a choice with a more chic edge that its two prettily patterned predecessors.
