She got engaged to music producer David Foster, 68, while on holiday in Italy.
And Katharine McPhee, 34, revealed that she didn’t know who he was when she was first scheduled to meet him, according to the Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino podcast.
The star was 22 during their first meeting, which took place while she was a contestant on season five of American Idol in 2006.

David was going to serve as a guest judge alongside opera singer Andrea Bocelli, who she did know of.
Katharine said she knew of Andrea because she loved his music and also performed his 1998 son The Prayer, which he had performed with Celine Dion.
She wasn’t aware that David wrote that song too.
Katharine said on the podcast: ‘I grew up listening to Celine Dion and I love Andrea Bocelli – I knew The Prayer because I’d sung it for something and my mom made me learn the Italian,’ via People.

The actress said that when she found out her mentors for the week on American Idol she called her mom.
The star said: ‘I remember calling [my mom] and I was like, “You’re never going to believe, the guest mentors this week is Andrea Bocelli and there’s producer that I don’t know but he’s supposed to be really amazing. His name is David Foster.’
Katharine continued the story: ‘My mom was like “Katharine, you know who David Foster is. You’ve listened to every artist that he’s ever created.” And I was like, “Oh… okay.”‘
For her performance for that week on American Idol, she sang Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing from the Bodyguard movie.

David had said at the time after her performance: ‘Katharine’s got a great, great future ahead of her.’

Ironically enough, he played the piano at her wedding to her now ex Nick Cokas.
Katharine and Nick were married in February 2008 and they split in 2014 with their divorce finalized in February 2016..
She told Danny that: ‘We met on the show and then I did a lot of charity events with him. We’ve been friends a long time. And…yeah…’
