Katie Holmes goes incognito in a denim jacket and navy ball cap as she rides the subway in New York City to her performance in The Wanderers

Katie Holmes went incognito on Sunday in New York City when she rode the subway in a denim jacket and a navy blue ball cap.

The Dawson’s Creek alumna, 44, favors the hat for flying under the radar, as she recently used the same ball cap to hide her wet hair this week.

Holmes paired her denim jacket with a simple dark blue dress and sported a pair of black flats.

The star slipped into the subway and boarded her train, keeping the brim of her ball cap turned down as she selected a seat and checked her phone.

Katie was heading to a matinee performance of her Off-Broadway play The Wanderers, which opened on February 17 at the Roundabout Theater.

In The Wanderers, Katie plays a movie star whose e-mail correspondence with a novelist ends up taking away time from the man’s wife and family.

Charles Isherwood at the Wall Street Journal called the play ‘perfectly cast’ and said Holmes ‘imbues the character with a gracious intelligence and twinges of self-deprecation and humor.’

During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan Tuesday, Katie told the talk show hosts how she and the other members of the cast get ready for their nightly performance.

‘We all hang out in the boys’ dressing room from 6:15 until about seven,’ she said. ‘We just talk about our days, and chill out. We just kind of check in with each other.’

‘Sometimes we have a dance party,’ Katie continued, ‘ and then right before, after we all get ready and when they call places, we stand in a circle and we look at each other and we breathe, and I always breathe too soon, because I get too excited.’

Now that the cast have been doing the show for several weeks, some of the nerves have gone and they are more comfortable not only on stage, but behind the scenes.

‘Now, we’re doing, like, little high fives and little things here and there,’ she revealed. ‘It’s really fun. I feel so lucky. It’s such a wonderful and talented group of actors that it’s just such a joy to go every day.’

The First Daughter star’s latest trip on the subway comes after a busy few weeks promoting her new film Rare Objects, which will be in theaters and on demand April 14.

Holmes revealed the trailer for Rare Objects on Instagram earlier this month, writing: ‘I am so excited to share the trailer for Rare Objects. It is a film about friendship, resilience, truth and beauty. It will be in theaters and on demand April 14.’

IMDB describes the drama as a ‘…story of a young woman who seeks to rebuild her life when she takes work at an antique store.

‘She regains her confidence from the kind souls who own the shop, until those from her traumatic past begin to resurface.’

Katie not only stars in the film, she also wrote and directed it. It is based on the novel by the same name from Kathleen Tessaro.
