Katy Perry channels Madonna as she dons sexy corset to promote American Idol on Instagram

Katy Perry only had to look to Madonna of the 1990s for inspiration on what to wear for her Mother’s Day promo push for American Idol.

The Firework star took to her Instagram page on Sunday and shared a series of four photos of herself decked out in a lavender corset mini dress, along with a clever play on words.

‘Of CORSET you’re watching #americanidol rn riiight?’ she wrote in the caption, alongside photos of her striking poses in the sexy garment.

In one of the pictures, Katy (born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson), 37, can be seen from the waist up, starring off to her left.

The corset looks much like Madonna’s style of yesteryear, with one exception. Back in the 90s the Material Girl typically liked her corsets with pointed cups, which isn’t the case with Perry’s.

For two of other three photos, Perry is standing forward looking straight into the camera with a seduction stare.

One style difference: The only glaring difference in style was the Material Girls penchant for pointed cups, which isn’t the case with Perry’s style choice

About two hours later, Katy’s took back to Instagram for another American Idol promo, only this time she first shared a video with her mother, Mary Perry Hudson.

‘Happy Mother’s day everyone,’ she began while still dressed in her lavender corset. 

‘I’m with my mom and we just want to tell you to tune in West Coast to American Idol because there are some surprises,’ which prompted a humorous grunt from her mom.

‘Mom, don’t tell them anything. Don’t tell them that you’re sad. Are you sad mom? ‘ she asked, which was met by her mother uttering a few crowing sounds like a bird.

Mother’s Day special: About two hours later, Katy’s took back to Instagram for another American Idol promo, only this time she shared a video with her mother, Mary Perry Hudson

Admission: Katy’s mom went on to confess that one of her favorite contestants got sent home, but that ‘several are still in’ the competition

‘Why, did one of your favorite contestants go home?’ Katy asked.  

‘Yes, but several are still in. Thank you Jesus,’ Mary shot back, which was uttered back by her daughter.

Katy also shared three photos in the series, which included one of her next to fellow judge Luke Bryan; another where she’s snuggled up to a group of young Idol fans; and the third with judge Lionel Richie.

‘For all the moms on the west coast, tune in to see the thank u Jesus #americanidol contestants that made it,’ she wrote in the caption.
