Daughtry competed on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006, finishing fourth place. Taylor Hicks was named the winner that season, with Katharine McPhee as the runner-up.

The 37-year-old has sold millions of records since leaving Idol.

Though Clarkson and Underwood are the biggest hits to come off the show, he comes in at number three.

UsWeekly added that ABC, the network that is launching the reboot, at first wanted only former contestants to be judges.

They looked at Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson.

But their wish list was hard to pin down as some of the members, like Clarkson, had other ideas.

She is now slated to work on The Voice.

ABC announced earlier this month that the singing competition will be returning to TV after airing its final episode on Fox in April 2016.

‘American Idol on ABC … that has a nice ring to it,’ Disney co-chairman Ben Sherwood said in a statement on May 9.

‘Idol is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor. America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever Idol.’

Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell were the first judges.

Later came Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, among others.

And toward the end it was Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr.
