Katy Perry dazzles joins Orlando Bloom to meet the Pope

She and ‘darling’ boyfriend Orlando Bloom jetted into Vatican City on Saturday to meet the Pope at a charity conference.

The Teenage Dream singer, 33, looked sensational in a form-fitting black lace dress as she joined her handsome beau, 41, for the visit with Pope Francis at the fourth annual conference in honour of the Unite To Cure conference which gathers experts in health, entertainment, media and technology.

Blonde beauty Katy, showed off her lithe figure in a chic high-necked  black gown, which featured lacy cap sleeves and a semi-sheer flared skirt.

The three-day international conference – which runs from Thursday to Saturday – discussed the effects of new technology on society and culture.

In addition to gathering experts in a range of fields, the event also saw the attendance from faith-based organizations and government representatives, who touched upon topics such as virtual reality and improving health care in less developed countries.

In her Instagram stories, she said: ‘Happy Saturday everyone, I’m here in Rome at the Vatican, to speak on meditation. I’m with my momma, my darling [Orlando], and my manager, Steve! It’s a great day! I am so excited!’

Genesis star Peter Gabriel was also in attendance as a special guest at the event for his noted work in digital media.

The singer was brought up by devoutly Christian parents, Keith and Mary Hudson. Last year she discussed their feeling towards her music during an interview on Smallzy’s Surgery radio show. ‘The thing about it is, which is such a weird thing, to really understand we agree to disagree but still with loving space,’ she said.

‘We all come from different places… you can have your belief system, nobody is telling you to not believe your beliefs but you can also come from a space of love.

She added: ‘That’s what my family and I exercise all the time.’

Among other songs that raised eyebrows in the Perry family, her 2008 hit I Kissed A Girl was also cause for concern.

‘I was a little concerned, yeah, ’cause I thought my ministry after 30-something years is over,’ Katy’s minister father Keith, who runs his own ministry with Mary in California, said in Katy’s 2012 documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me.

‘But, you know what? Never had a problem.’

The star kicked off her singing career as a Gospel artist before embarking on her successful journey with secular music.

Speaking on her religious childhood, the Firework hitmaker told Vogue last year: ‘Amy Grant was our Madonna. We knew about Madonna and Marilyn Manson in my family because we picketed their concerts.’

‘My house was church on Sunday morning, church on Sunday night, church on Wednesday evening; you don’t celebrate Halloween; Jesus gives you your Christmas presents; we watch Bill O’Reilly on TV.’

‘That was my whole childhood and youth and early teens. I still have conditioned layers dropping off of me by the day.’

The songstress referenced Queen’s Freddie Mercury as her inspiration to switch lanes to her current music style, stating: ‘I had never heard such an imaginative explanation of how to live.’

‘That was my first perspective on that world, and I just loved it. I felt so free and accepted.’

During an interview with Marie Claire in 2013, the star opened up about her personal spiritual beliefs: ‘I don’t believe in a heaven or a hell or an old man sitting on a throne.’

‘I believe in a higher power bigger than me because that keeps me accountable.’

Meanwhile, Orlando – who has been a practising Buddhist since he was 16 – revealed his beliefs have helped him cope with fame.

‘You see these victims all around you: 15 minutes of fame, a YouTube sensation, whatever it may be. They don’t realise what it takes.

‘What you want to do is learn how to suit up and get out of that burning car with grace, ease and integrity’, the Hobbit star said in an interview with ELLE last year.
