Katy Perry in cringeworthy ad for Japanese fabric softener

She’s better known for her distinctively upbeat brand of pop, but Katy Perry’s bubble appears to burst in an unlikely new advert for Japanese fabric softener.

The American singer, 30, has featured in two 15-second commercials on behalf of fabric and air care brand Laundrin’ following its nationwide launch across Japanese retail outlets on September 1.

In the first a glamorously dressed Katy, who is worth an estimated $275 million, is seen entering a mansion and ascending a spiral staircase, peeling off her clothes item by item before retrieving a freshly washed and dried dressing gown from a tumble drier and slipping it on.

Burying her nose into its deep fabric, the singer appears to be completely entranced by its presumed freshness as the catchy chorus to recent album track Act My Age plays in the background.

Adopting a similar theme, the second ad finds Katy twirling in the centre of a large living room, her arms outstretched and a seemingly blissful expression on her face as she inhales the scented air.

Curiously, both adverts end with Katy adopting an accent as she tells viewers: ‘I love Laundrin’’.
