Katy Perry meets superfan, 9, who survived brain tumour

It might be the season to be jolly, but Katy Perry proved Christmas is also a time to be kind.

The pop star made nine-year-old Rayna Massie’s dream come true as the youngster survived an aggressive brain tumour at the age of seven, drawing strength from music. 

Rayna, from Oklahoma, got the chance to meet her pop idol after the American megastar paired with cancer charity the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The 33-year-old artist met up with Rayna before the concert after learning that music played such a large role in the youngster’s recovery process, especially the powerful song Roar. 

The nine-year-old’s condition had caused vision loss, hormone issues, walking, and talking issues but she didn’t let that get her down. 

She first learned that she’s going to be meeting her icon at a school assembly after the principle played the powerful jungle hit, which Rayna immediately responded to.

Teenage Dream hitmaker Katy donned an all-pink ensemble, complete with feathered gloves and earrings, and complimented Rayna on her look, singing her all-time favourite song, Roar.

Katy, who previously dated Orlando Bloom, said: ‘I truly believe music is medicine and has the power to heal and inspire. Growing up it was my soul and refuge and the only thing that understood me’

The star hugged and sang with a delighted Rayna, and even bought out her dog Nugget who Rayna has stuffed versions of.

She added: ‘Make-A-Wish is a powerful experience and what I hope comes from it is that they feel seen, they feel heard, and that they’re important, special, and that the person that they look up to sees them. 

‘Like Rayna for instance has been using her song Roar and after our meeting, maybe she goes ‘Katy wrote it for me’ and so she just feels strength from it, and that’s why I do it.’

Rayna’s mother said: ‘It means so much, it’s not just ‘oh my gosh I’m a superfan, I want to meet you’, it really has changed her (Rayna’s) life’
