Are they really roughing it? Former I’m A Celebrity star Keira Maguire reveals the ‘secret luxuries’ contestants are allowed in the South African jungle

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has returned for its fifth season.

And while competitors are supposed to be roughing it in the South African jungle, one former star says there are several secret luxuries that contestants can be treated to.

Speaking with WHO magazine on Thursday, Keira Maguire claimed that contestants were treated to protein bars, cigarettes and contact with the outside world during her stint on the show in 2017.

Are they really roughing it? I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alum Keira Maguire told Who magazine on Thursday that stars were treated to some secret luxuries during her season of the show

Keira says contestants were permitted to head to a special area of the camp site in order to get a tobacco fix, while several stars were also allowed to smuggle in make-up.

The outspoken blonde further told Who that the competitors could also have contact with family back in Australia – but only in emergencies.

‘If anyone had a situation at home that came up while we were in there, then they were allowed to talk to a  producer who would call home for them and relay messages back,’ she explained.

And while Keira claimed that food rationing was very strict, contestants could indulge in a protein bar before challenges in order to get an extra hit of energy.

Never one to shy away from making explosive comments, Keira also alleged that celebrities signed to Channel 10 received ‘special treatment’ during her time in the jungle.

‘There are certainly some names in there treated better than others, and that’s usually Channel 10’s own talent,’ she asserted.
