‘It’s not just missing someone that’s been hard’: Kerri-Anne Kennerley reveals she’s struggling to finalise her late husband John’s estate

Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s beloved husband John died from pneumonia at the age of 78 in February.

And speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald’s Emerald City on Sunday, the TV host admitted that it’s been difficult finalising his estate.

‘It’s not just missing someone that’s been hard, but tying up his affairs and dealing with a lot of legal-type stuff,’ the 65-year-old said.

‘There’s a lot of paperwork to do and I’m not great at paperwork, that was John’s domain,’ she added.

Kerri-Anne returned to her role as Studio 10 co-host last week, thanking viewers for their support, before tearfully describing how her life has changed following John’s death.

‘The hole it leaves in your life, it’s so painful. It’s a hole that will never be filled,’ she said, clutching a tissue in her hand.

‘It was a shock because I thought I would have John for many, many, many years to come. It was a terrible shock.’

Kerri-Anne announced the passing of John on her Instagram page in late February.

‘It’s with a heavy heart and awful sadness that I let you know that my beautiful husband John passed away last night,’ Kerri-Anne wrote alongside a photograph of the couple on their wedding day in 1984.

‘As you all know, John has faced some tremendous challenges over the past few years and with each he has been extraordinarily brave and determined to overcome those hurdles and live a normal life.’

She went on: ‘I want to thank everyone at St Vincent’s Hospital for the beautiful care they have provided to John in his last days.

‘John passed away peacefully with his son Simon and me by his side. John, you were the love of my life. Xxx’

John died of pneumonia after years of health challenges.

He was left paralysed after falling from a balcony while taking photos of Kerri-Anne during a golfing tournament in Coffs Harbour, NSW, in March 2016.

He was airlifted to hospital with spinal chord injuries. Doctors operated on his neck after it emerged he had fractured his C3 and C4 vertebrae.

John was put in an induced coma, spent six weeks in intensive care and had multiple operations. Doctors diagnosed him as an incomplete quadriplegic.

They initially warned that John may never again move or speak, but with Kerri-Anne by his side, he managed both.
