Illness: Kerry Katona pulled out of her pantomime role on Sunday night after being struck down with pharyngitis

The illness left her unable to perform at the panto at Manchester’s Middleton Arena o Sunday night.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘A big thank you to the most amazing cast for yesterday’s show as I have Pharyngitis and was unable to perform!!!

‘But back today on antibiotics!!!’

And proving she was on the mend and battling through the illness, she shared a selfie of her in full stage make-up as she prepares to return to the stage on Monday night.

Looking a tad worn-out but still smiling, she captioned the shot: ‘Very poorly but plodding alone!!! Xxxxxx’.

It comes after Kerry revealed her stage appearance could now be ‘at risk’, as she has fallen ill ahead of the last couple of weeks of her panto performance.

She told fans she could ‘barely speak’, as she revealed she is relying on flu remedies to help nurse her back to health. Her comments came as fellow reality star Josie Gibson seemed to hint that she, herself, had been ‘sacked’ from her previous panto stint.

Clad in a dramatic purple and black gown, Kerry dons a statement horned headpiece to transform into the role for its three performances each day. Sleeping Beauty kicked off at the end of November and is set to run until December 27.

Before being struck down with illness, Kerry appeared to be having a ball during her panto stint and had treated her Instagram followers to an amusing behind-the-scenes video of her channelling her inner James Bond while sporting her costume.

News of Kerry becoming poorly comes after her fellow Big Brother star Josie Gibson hinted she had been ‘sacked’ from panto for drinking ahead of taking to the stage.

Josie had appeared on Big Brother in 2010 for Channel 4’s last series of the show, before returning for Ultimate Big Brother. Kerry, meanwhile, took part in Celebrity Big Brother in 2011 and finished in second place.

Josie had appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday to take part in a debate about whether panto has become ‘too sexualised’ for children alongside former glamour model Linda Lusardi, who has featured in pantomimes for 30 years.

The reality star appeared to share some advice, after Susanna Reid made a comment about her panto stint being ‘short-lived’, with Josie responding: ‘You shouldn’t drink during panto season, it’s very professional. I thought it was a laugh, but they take it very seriously.’

Suggesting she could have been speaking from experience, Josie joked: ‘I don’t think I will get booked for a panto again to be honest.’

However a representative for Josie confirmed to MailOnline that she has ‘never been sacked’ from panto.

Josie had made her pantomime debut in Bristol as The Genie in Aladdin back in 2013, but hasn’t returned to the stage since.

Clad in her Aladdin-inspired costume, meanwhile, Josie agreed with the claim that some scripts are now becoming ‘really, really sexualised’ and said: ‘It’s a real skill set to keep both the family and the adults entertained and not cross that border.’

Linda, meanwhile, argued: ‘I’ve been doing [pantomime] for 30 years and I’ve never had any complaints about the saucy jokes… it has to appeal right across the board.’

Josie then revealed her own experiences with panto and recalled an ’embarrassing’ moment she had suffered on stage. She told hosts Ben, Susanna and Kate Garraway: ‘It’s quite embarrassing really, but the worst one was when I got my costume stuck in my hat.

‘I was swivelling around and in the audience was the guy that I was in love with during school. I just kept thinking, “Oh no! Dave is in the audience.”‘
