KFC launches its first ever PLANT-based wicked wing popcorn chicken across Australia

KFC launches its first ever PLANT-based popcorn chicken across Australia – but vegans will have to go without for one simple reason

  • KFC is launching their first ever plant-based snack in select NSW locations
  • Wicked Popcorn uses Wicked Wings’ spices in meat-free popcorn-sized morsels
  • The meal starts from $2.95 and will be available from August 9 to September 5
  • Wicked Popcorn is made from pea-protein and comes with a lime ranch sauce
  • But KFC revealed the meal is not prepared in a vegan or vegetarian friendly way

KFC has announced the long-awaited arrival of its first ever plant-based food in Australia: Wicked Popcorn.

The meal uses the same iconic spice combination of Wicked Wings in meat-free popcorn-sized morsels – and will be accompanied by a brand new lime ranch dipping sauce that promises spice, zest, and crunch in one bite.

Wicked Popcorn starts from just $2.95 and will be available in fourteen KFC restaurants across the NSW South Coast from Tuesday August 9 to Monday September 5.

However, strict vegans and vegetarians should beware of the new plant-based alternative.

KFC revealed that though Wicked Popcorn is made from pea-protein and doesn’t contain animals or animal products, it is not prepared in a vegan or vegetarian friendly way.

This means the plant-based chicken is likely cooked in the same oil as the meat products.

Wicked Popcorn, the Wicked Popcorn Bowl, and Wicked Popcorn Combo can be purchased from participating KFC restaurants and via the KFC App.

The new dish is dubbed a ‘mouthwatering marriage of two KFC fan-favourites’ and the fast food chain cannot wait to gauge customer reactions to the delicious meal.

‘We’re excited to serve up Wicked Popcorn – an innovative product that offers more choice on our menu,’ said KFC Australia CMO, Sally Spriggs.

She added, ‘We’re always looking to treat our fans with new products, so we hope they’ll enjoy this meat-free option which offers that great KFC taste our fans know and love.’
