A pair of teenager killers gave each other a ‘fist bump’ after stabbing an 18-year-old to death, a court has heard.

Yusuf Mohamed, 18, was murdered for ‘no apparent reason’ outside a convenience store in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, on June 26.

William Haines, 18, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named, allegedly attacked the aspiring engineer using ‘Rambo blades’.

Jurors heard CCTV shows the attack and Haines accepts he plunged the 6.2-inch blade into his victim’s heart.

The pair pounced on Mr Mohamed in the middle of the day outside Intercontinental Foods.

Shop staff called the police after the killers left the 18-year-old Chelsea fan slumped on the floor bleeding heavily and struggling to breath.

The blade went ‘right up to the hilt, as far as it would go’, the court heard.

Bill Emlyn Jones, prosecuting, said Haines accepts that he is indeed the person shown in the CCTV.

He said: ‘That is him who stabs Yusuf in the chest. He stabs Yusuf Mohamed with a large knife right in the middle of the chest.

‘Is he going to say he did not really intend at least some really serious injury?

‘Well, the prosecution understand that it is his case that although he accepts that it is him in the footage, he cannot remember doing what it shows him doing.

‘He says he had a drink and so he cannot remember it.’

Mr Emlyn Jones added: ‘As the two young men ran away, tucking their knives back out of sight, you will see on CCTV, they gave each other a fist bump as if you say “Well done us”.’

‘It was the shop staff who contacted the police. They have a panic button inside linked to the police.’

He told jurors the killers fled after stabbing Mr Mohamed and were caught on CCTV in ‘an alleyway where you saw the first bump’.

‘They look, don’t they, to be very pleased with themselves after the stabbing, as if I suggested they had done exactly what they had intended to do.

‘So, the police investigating the murder of Yusuf Mohamed having found this bit of CCTV footage searched the bushy around that little grassy junction to see if they could find the bag belonging to the person responsible for the killing.’

With the help of a police dog officers later found a ruck sack dumped in bushes containing a large blade with a curved and serrated upper edge along with a sheath. Another weapon was discovered by a dog walker.

A post-mortem recorded the cause of death as a single stab wound to the chest.

Relatives of Mr Mohamed sat in the well of the court listening to details of the prosecution opening.

Haines, from Hammersmith, admits manslaughter but denies murder. The 17-year-old denies murder.

The trial continues.
