Sandra told The Sun: ‘We really dive into the relationship. We both understand there’s a lot of mystery between Eve and Villanelle and we play it as such.

‘Usually what happens is, story-wise, Eve and Villanelle are kept apart and at a certain point they crash into each other then have their storyline together.

‘Jodie and I have a profound relationship. At this point, having done three seasons, we trust each other when the magic is happening. That’s how we work it.’

Series Two of Killing Eve ends on a heart-stopping cliffhanger, with Eve Polastri’s fate hanging in the balance.

Over the past two series we’ve seen intriguing Russian contract killer Villanelle (Jodie Comer) obsess over British Intelligence agent Eve Polastri – and vice versa.

The pair oscillate between capturing each other, killing each other and falling in love with each other.

The cliffhanger finale of series two ended with Villanelle shooting Eve and leaving her for dead, after the assassin imagined living with Eve together in Alaska.

Killing Eve’s latest series was released two weeks earlier than scheduled as a special gift for fans battling lockdown boredom.

Speaking of the move, Sandra said: ‘Particularly right now, this month in North America, and I am sure for you guys as well, is a really tough time.’

‘So, if we can throw out some extra fun and devilish sunshine then I am really happy that we can provide that,’ the Grey’s Anatomy star added.
