Kim Kardashian shared that her 16 pound weight loss in order to fit Marilyn Monroe’s iconic gown at the 2022 Met Gala came at a steep price.
The 41-year-old SKIMS founder – who usually eats a plant-based diet – revealed that because she had been consuming meat in her effort to quickly slim down, her body had a psoriasis flare up that led to psoriatic arthritis.
‘Psoriasis broke out over my body and I got psoriatic arthritis so I couldn’t really move my hands,’ she said in a new interview with Allure, adding, ‘I was freaking out.’
Price of beauty: Kim Kardashian shared that her 16 pound weight loss in order to fit Marilyn Monroe’s gown at the 2022 Met Gala caused a psoriasis flare up that led to psoriatic arthritis
‘It was really painful, and I had to go to a rheumatologist who put me on a steroid,’ she stated.
Thankfully, cutting out meat did the trick and helped her body recover: ‘I cut out the meat again, and it’s calmed down.’
Despite suffering from the painful condition, Kim recently defended her diet and remarked that she didn’t do ‘anything unhealthy’ as she compared her weight loss to that of Christian Bale’s extreme weight loss for his role in The Machinist.

Chatting to The New York Times, Kim – who attended the prestigious fashion event with her boyfriend Pete Davidson, 28 – shared that she lost the weight through diet, a sauna suit and running twice a day and explained: ‘I didn’t do anything unhealthy’.
The Kardashians star has been open in regards to her struggle with psoriasis – a skin disease thought to be an immune system problem, which causes skin cells to build up and form scales and itchy, dry patches.
She opened up about the condition in depth on her sister Kourtney Kardashian’s website Poosh, in 2019, where she shared a variety of photos of her having psoriasis flare-ups.

The mother-of-four first experienced the condition in her twenties, but it came back more strongly in her thirties.
‘Earlier this year is when it got extremely bad – it covered my whole face and a majority of my entire body,’ the KKW Beauty mogul said.
She also shared that her mother Kris Jenner had psoriasis but she was able to treat it with UV rays from a tanning bed, which Kim is not able to do.
‘It’s been 13 years since I experienced my first psoriasis flare-up…. I am the only child my mom passed down her autoimmune issue to. Lucky me, lol,’ she stated.

‘When I was 25, I had my first psoriasis flare-up. I got a common cold, and since psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, this triggered it. It was all over my stomach and legs.’
Later on she also discovered that she had psoriatic arthritis – a type of arthritis that affects some people who have psoriasis.
‘One night, I woke up to use the restroom and I physically couldn’t pick up my phone,’ she said, and stated that she went on to have medical tests that confirmed she was suffering from the affliction.
Though it was scary to be diagnosed with the condition – which can come and go – Kim stated it was better to know so that she could properly manage the condition.
‘It’s still painful and scary, but I was happy to have a diagnosis. No matter what autoimmune condition I had, I was going to get through it, and they are all manageable with proper care.’
