King hit on Enmore St, Newtown: Man fighting for life

A man is fighting for his life after being king-hit and knocked unconscious on one of Sydney’s busiest nightlife strips. 

Members of the public performed CPR on the 25-year-old man in the middle of Enmore St in Newtown, inner-west Sydney, following the attack at about 11pm on Wednesday.

Paramedics arrived at the scene in four minutes and began treating him for serious head injuries. 

He was rushed to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition. He was in a serious but stable condition on Thursday morning.

NSW Police revealed two off-duty officers were injured in the attack.

‘Police have been told the injured man and a second man, both off-duty NSW Police Force officers, were walking along Enmore Road when they approached three unknown men who were having an argument with each other,’ it said.

‘The two off-duty officers were assaulted with one of them knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked to the head.

‘The three men ran from the scene prior to police arrival.’

The second officer, also aged 25, suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been released. 

Shocking photos from the scene showed emergency services working to save the 25-year-old’s life as he lay on the road.

Traffic was blocked in both directions. 

Police established a crime scene and will investigate the incident under Strike Force Rabnor.

NSW Police are looking to identify three men.

The first is described as being of Maori/ Pacific Islander appearance, between 20 and 30 years old, with short curly black hair. He wore a white t-shirt and dark blue jeans.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance and 20-30 years old. He wore a tan colour vest, tan colour cargo pants and black sneakers.

The third man is described as being of Maori/ Pacific Islander appearance, 20-30 years old and with long brown curly hair. He wore a long sleeve black stripe flannelette shirt, grey trackpants and black slides.
