Kiwi firefighters have performed a haka to residents of northern New South Wales, in an emotional tribute to the Australian community affected by the devastating bushfires.

The crew performed the ceremonial dance while dressed in their full fire-fighter uniforms after helping fight fires alongside Australian crews for the past three weeks.

The moment was captured by Richmond Valley Council Mayor Robert Mustow who was invited to attend the performance outside the Ballina motel.

The crew of 26 joined Australian crews in the middle of November to offer support with the fires in northern NSW and Queensland, according to 9 news.

Richmond Valley Council Mayor Robert Mustow said he was honoured to see the performance and thanked the crews for their support.

‘It was wonderful to meet them during their visit & I sincerely thank them for the effort & contribution to keeping our community safe in our time of need,’ he wrote on Facebook.

In a separate post the mayor spoke about gifting one of the fire-fighters with a ‘Richmond Valley Australia Made’ T-shirt.

The Kiwi crew performed the haka for the Ballina community after spending three weeks in the town supporting Australian fire crews
