  • Kmart recently released a hair straightener priced at an affordable $20
  • The appliance was put to the test by an Australian woman with coarse, frizzy hair
  • She says the gadget, which heats to 230°C, performed as well as pricier versions

Beauty fans are going wild for a $20 hair straightener from Kmart for its ability to transform frizzy hair into a shiny, straight look in minutes.

The device was recently tested by an Australian mum named Lauren who took to her YouTube channel, Lime and Chilli, to say the gadget was better ‘than those worth $300’.

‘My hair is thick, coarse, dry and frizzy and it’s taken me years and years to find straighteners that worked,’ Lauren said.

The hair straightener features ceramic coated plates, and comes with an adjustable temperature control that allows users to increase heat to 230 degrees.

To demonstrate how effective the straightening iron was, Lauren allowed her hair to dry naturally.

When the appliance was switched on, she told viewers it defaults to a temperature of 180 degrees, however, to deal with her ‘mop’, the YouTuber dialled up the heat up to 210.

Lauren said she regularly straightens her hair and that she has the most success by first dividing it into sections so she doesn’t have to work with large areas.

‘I part it down the middle and to three sections side-by-side, on each side, then I work from the back to the front,’ she said on the clip.

After six minutes, she revealed she had straightened the back section, and said her hair ‘felt really soft’ compared to her more expensive straightener.

‘It just goes to show how much they must mark up these popular brands and make so much money.

She added: ‘This [product] is great for mothers with teenagers who can’t afford to go out and get these expensive brands for their kids.’

Thrilled with the end result, the YouTuber told fans  it was possible to spend just ‘$20 to get your hair looking good’.

‘My hair actually feels silky so I’m pretty impressed. I would probably give this four-and-a-half out of five stars.’
