Kmart employee reveals the secret code that tells you when a sold-out item will be back in store

Kmart sold out of your favourite product? Employee reveals the secret code on the retailer’s tags that tell you when the item will be back in stock

  • A Kmart worker has revealed a little-known code on the retailer’s price tags
  • If you visit a store and the product you want is out of stock, this will help you
  • Each shopping tag has an ‘estimated delivery date’ on it for those wondering
  • You can find out when that item is due back in the store without asking
  • The ‘hack’ has gone viral on Facebook, with some workers even surprised

Kmart shoppers have rejoiced at the news their favourite retailer has a ‘secret code’ on its sold out tags that indicate when a product will be arriving back in the store.

The ‘hack’ was discovered by an Australian customer before an employee confirmed it was true, saying that while it only gives you an ‘estimate’ for when that item will be back, it’s better than not knowing at all.

‘I was today years old when I learned that the date on a ‘temporarily out of stock’ tag tells you when the next delivery of stock is estimated to be at Kmart,’ a woman wrote on Facebook.

‘The acronym EDD means estimated delivery date.’

A Kmart worker confirmed: ‘It is an estimated delivery/due date! But definitely just an estimate, it doesn’t mean it will definitely come in on that date’.

The news overwhelmed those who have been patiently waiting for items like the $29 sausage roll maker to arrive back in stores, which according to one tag is due to be restocked on July 8.

One lady, who currently works at Kmart, said she had never been told about the date on tags, and would have found it helpful when customers ask about out of stock items.

‘It’s true, every item that I’ve wanted has arrived in store on the date it says on the tag,’ one woman revealed.

‘I saw this yesterday while I was shopping and I was seriously shocked,’ said another.

A third added: ‘I’m going to go look at every tag now’.

There is a secondary date on the tag, marked by the acronym GSD, which a different Kmart employee said stands for ‘Global Service Delivery’.

‘The GSD date is the date is was scanned and the out of stock label printed… I have seen some wild theories about that one,’ she said.
