When one gift becomes two: Shopper reveals the unusual kitchen item she’s using to wrap her Christmas presents this year

  • A shopper has revealed how she used budget tea towels to wrap Christmas gifts
  • She used $5 tea towels from Kmart as an unusual alternative to gift wrap items
  • Not only does it prevent wastage, the present instantly becomes two gifts in one

A thrifty shopper has come up with an ingenious way to wrap Christmas presents without using any traditional wrapping paper.

The woman, from Brisbane, used $5 tea towels from Kmart as an unusual alternative to gift wrap items to place under the tree.

The present instantly becomes two gifts in one – so it’s perfect for anyone who’s fed up with wrapping paper going to waste every year.

‘Love Kmart for gifts [and] wrapping gifts in the beautiful Australiana Christmas tea towels. Kmart for the win,’ she wrote in a Facebook group.

The festive designed tea towels come in a pack of three for just $5.

Her post was quickly met with positive comments, with dozens of people saying the tea towels are a ‘fantastic’ eco-friendly gifting option.

‘Love this idea environmentally friendly, practical and looks great,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘What a great idea! They look awesome and something different from the standard Christmas Wrap.’

And she’s not the only one who wraps gifts in tea towels.

‘I love wrapping gifts in tea towels, manchester, or fabrics (depending on who I’m giving it to). I hate wrapping paper because a present often gets wrapped the night before and then 12 hours later, the paper is in the recycle bin,’ one explained.

A second woman said: ‘I do that. And I buy the reusable materials shopping bags as gift bags.’

And a third added: ‘I do this and everyone loves the idea.’
