Kobe Bryant is seen comforting drivers at scene of California car crash, six weeks before he died

Kobe Bryant selflessly helped people at the scene of a car crash in California last month, and the moment was captured in a video that later went viral.

The basketball legend – who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday morning – is seen helping out following the incident in Newport Beach.

Footage from a bystander shows Bryant sticking around to talk to those who were shaken up, apparently comforting them until first responders arrived.

In the video captured by TMZ, Bryant is seen crossing the road as a group of people hug after the December 13 crash.

The foggy video shows Bryant stroll past his own vehicle – a black SUV – which is unharmed.

But it appears he rushed to the aid of others, leaving the doors of his car wide open in a hurry.

Bryant is filmed gesturing to traffic as witnesses standing at the busy intersection cannot quite believe their eyes.

‘That’s Kobe Bryant in the pink over the top of that silver car,’ the man behind the camera narrates. ‘That’s his Range with the blinkers on.’

The sportsman is seen as the videographer describes him as in the all-pink ‘tracksuit looking fly’ and standing beside a banged up silver vehicle.

Bryant patiently waits as people in the background yell that authorities are on the way.

The camera also pans to another vehicle which has been badly damaged in the collision. It was the car Bryant was seen next to as the video began.

But the video from December wasn’t the first the public saw of his kind actions during vehicle incidents.

In September 2018, Bryant was seen helping people involved in a car crash also in the Newport Beach area.

The NBA superstar stopped his blacked-out Range Rover to check on the driver of a Tesla that got hit by a car that ran a red light.

At the time a representative for Bryant said he had offered to take pictures of the scene because the Tesla driver’s phone was damaged in the incident.

No one was seriously harmed in that incident, TMZ reported.

At the time Bryant was praised for his week of good deeds. His week had included a visit to the Children’s Hospital Of Orange County.

Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on Sunday morning.

The 41-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers basketball star’s death was first confirmed by TMZ.

The outlet reported that Bryant was traveling with four other people – including daughter ‘Gi-Gi’ – in his private Sikorsky S-76 helicopter when it crashed, killing everyone on board.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of the crash near Las Virgenes Rd and Willow Glen St in Calabasas at around 10am after a fire broke out and a group of mountain bikers spotted the smoke.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Witnesses reported hearing the helicopter’s engine sputtering before it went down.

A flight plan indicated the helicopter took off from John Wayne Airport in Orange County at 9.06am PST and the last signal was received from the aircraft at 9.45am.

Sources told TMZ Bryant was headed to his Mamba Academy in Thousand Oaks for basketball practice.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that another player and parent were also on the helicopter.

Kobe and Gianna are survived by his wife Vanessa and their three other daughters – Natalia, Bianca and Capri, who was born last summer.

Bryant was widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

The Philadelphia native was a first-round pick in the 1996 draft and spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers, winning five NBA championships, two NBA Finals MVP titles and 18 All-Star titles before retiring in 2016.

Bryant was on 15 All-NBA Teams, 12 All-Defensive Teams and represented the USA at the Olympics in 2008 and 2008.

He was the first guard in NBA history to play at least 20 seasons and was the first and only player in Lakers history to have both of his jersey numbers – 8 and 24 – retired.

He is currently ranked fourth for all-time regular season scoring and all-time postseason scoring.

Bryant had been known to use his Sikorsky S-76 helicopter to travel for years – often flying from Newport Beach to the Staples Center for Lakers games.

Bryant’s death came one day after he was passed by Lakers forward LeBron James for third place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
