Kraft Australia has unveiled a vegan version of Mac & Cheese, offering shoppers with dietary restrictions the ability to enjoy the classic dish. 

Not only is it vegan, but the new product is also gluten free so it is perfect for coeliacs and those with a gluten sensitivity.

The macaroni pasta is said to taste just as good as the original version – but it’s made with rice flour, dairy-free cheese, cornmeal and rice starch.

Perfect as a side dish or a creamy snack, the product, which serves two, is now available at Woolworths stores around the country for $3.99. 

Chief marketing officer for Australia Shane Kent said he was very excited to be the first in the company globally to bring a Vegan Mac & Cheese to the market.

‘Over the last 18 months, we have been on a journey to extend our range of products in line with changing consumer preferences and this is just one example of many things to come,’ he said.

Shoppers who have tried the vegan Mac & Cheese claimed it tasted exactly how they remember eating it during their childhoods.

‘My nostalgic American heart has never felt so full… I was pumped to hear about Kraft making a coeliac and dairy free version and I was so impressed by the flavour and texture,’ a customer wrote.

Others agreed, with one woman saying she was ‘really impressed’ with the product.

While another added: ‘Many thanks to Kraft for delivering the greatest taste of childhood to an incredibly homesick American in Australia.

Many shoppers said they couldn’t wait to try it, with one saying: ‘This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.’
