Kye Whyte is ruled OUT of Dancing On Ice and will miss week three after injuring his knee

Dancing On Ice star Kye Whyte has been ruled out of this week’s show after sustaining a wrist injury during rehearsals.

The professional BMX rider – who is paired with American skater Tippy Packard – has sustained a sprain to his knee, with medical professionals advising he does not perform in this weekend’s show.

Kye, 22, enjoyed a positive start on the ice after impressing fans with his opening skate, but will be forced to sit out Sunday’s show as a result of an 11th hour accident.

He is the second celebrity to pull out with an injury after former S Club 7 star Rachel Stevens suffered a wrist injury before her debut skate on the show, which returned with a 14th series just three weeks ago.

A show source confirmed: ‘During rehearsals for this Sunday’s show, Kye fell on the ice and sustained an injury and will therefore not perform in this weekend’s show.’

Kye added: ‘It’s an unfortunate accident. I’ve trained and worked hard with Tippy to perform this weekend. For me, as an athlete, I’m used to stuff like this happening where you get injured and can’t compete.

‘I’m more sad for Tippy, she’s worked hard so not being able to skate is obviously upsetting. We both really wanted to do this number, it’s a cool performance and we put a lot of effort into it.

‘I was so happy and excited for everyone when they skated last weekend. I was watching and couldn’t wait to skate this Sunday. I’ll be there cheering everyone on!’

Fellow contestant  Rachel Stevens recently admitted she’s ‘having to learn to skate’ all over again in preparation for her Dancing On Ice debut.

Speaking on This Morning on Friday, the S Club star, 43, revealed she was ‘nervous’ watching last week’s show despite being sat on the sidelines.

Appearing alongside her partner Brendyn Hadfield, 36, she said: ‘It’s been eventful, we have been training off ice, on Monday we were back on the ice.

‘I was so nervous even though I wasn’t skating watching the last show. There was such frustration of not being on the ice, going back on Monday and learning the routine has been a lot. I am learning how to skate again.’

Brendyn added: ‘We had moments that were tough but we communicate and we do it again. Being away from the ice changes how you feel. Mentally we are in a good spot now though.’

On her previous ice experience, Rachel explained: ‘I’m a total novice. I’m not a trained dancer, I did Strictly which is similar but with the ice its totally different. It’s such a fine line. I don’t want to fall.’

But Brendyn praised Rachel, adding: ‘She carries herself so elegantly. We start with just steps and then we go into hold and then throw her up in the air.’

Despite her nerves Rachel admitted: ‘I’m loving it, when its right it feels so amazing, they make it look so effortless the pros. My brain goes to do it and body just can’t.’

The pair will be dancing to a track from Moulin Rouge by Patti LaBelle this Saturday.

Speaking on her injury, Rachel revealed: ‘My wrist has healed really well. I had a few falls and fell on this wrist and on the final fall I was like “oh I’ve done something there.”‘

Earlier this week Rachel admitted to MailOnline that it’s ‘frustrating and scary’ being forced to miss her debut skate on the show.

The S Club 7 star sustained the injury during a training session before Christmas, but insisted it is healing ‘really really well.’

In an exclusive interview, the songstress voiced her gratitude at still being able to partake in the competition despite the ‘wobbles’ she’s encountered along the way.

‘I’ve had my wobbles for sure. When I take on something, I want to give it my everything.

‘It’s been frustrating and scary but at the same time, Brendyn [Hatfield] has been so amazing and the team around me have been so supportive and I’ve had amazing medical advice.

‘We’ve done everything we can off ice. We’ve been working so hard so fingers crossed when I’m back on I can just give it my everything,’ she said.

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6:30pm on ITV.
