A controlling mother who demanded that her 20-year-old daughter terminate her pregnancy has stunned Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and Kyle Sandilands.

The woman, named Cathy, called in to The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday and revealed that she was pressuring her daughter to get an abortion.

Cathy argued that at 20, her daughter was simply too young to raise a child. 

Jackie, who was shocked by the admission, argued, ‘She’s 20-years-old, Cathy. That’s old.’

Refusing to budge on the issue, Cathy shot back, ‘She’s got her whole life ahead of her. She’s living at home.’

Cathy also confessed that she’d allow her daughter to keep the baby if she married her partner, but said that her daughter isn’t keen on walking down the aisle.

Unimpressed, Jackie responded, ‘That’s a big call, Cathy, to say that someone should terminate their pregnancy because of an antiquated belief.’

She added, ‘It’s ultimately her decision and I don’t think you could ever tell your daughter to terminate her pregnancy. You don’t want to ruin your relationship with your daughter.’ 

Jackie’s co-host Kyle seemed more sympathetic to Cathy’s plight, so the pair invited listeners to call-in to give their opinions.

The first caller, named Karen, broke down in tears as she revealed that she had been pressured by her own mother to terminate a pregnancy at age 20, and was then unable to have children after that due to medical complications.

‘I’m now 50 and I regret doing it,’ she said, becoming emotional.

Not only did Karen admit that she regretted the decision, she also said her own mother regrets it too and has been in therapy over the ramifications of the abortion.

However, another caller then weighed-in and urged Cathy’s daughter to terminate the pregnancy.

The man, a father of two, said he was working two jobs and could barely support his family and wished that he’d set himself up financially before having kids. 

He was followed by another caller, a woman, who was audibly outraged by any talk of aborting the child.

‘I had a child at 21 and I’ve raised that child all on my own no matter how much cost, no matter how hard it got and I had people against me for having the child,’ she raged.

‘I don’t regret that child for one moment!’ she added, before getting into a shouting match with the male caller.
