Kyle and Jackie O have revealed the worst celebrity interview that they’ve ever done.

Speaking on their KIIS FM radio show on Tuesday, the pair said that interviewing Russell Crowe, 55, during his Gladiator days was no easy task.

They revealed that they wanted to get on his good side and gifted him a carton of beer and cigarettes, but he was left utterly ‘offended.’

Jackie explained that Kyle came up with the unique gift idea.

‘You said, “we’ll take him a carton of beer and a carton of cigarettes and give it to him as a gift,” and he was offended.’

‘He said, “is this what you think I’m like is it? Is this all there is to me, is it?”

Kyle described the chat as a ‘disaster,’ while Jackie said that Russell couldn’t believe the interview, at one point asking them: ‘Is this the interview?’

Jackie said she felt sorry for Kyle as it was one of his first celebrity interviews in Sydney, but then said that Russell eventually ‘warmed up.’

‘Well the funny thing is, as the interview went on, he really loosened up and warmed up and at the end, he said, ”let’s crack open the beers and hang out together,” so we did,’ she said.

The pair said they couldn’t believe they were then hanging out with Russell, also known as Rusty to fans, and said they got ‘blind’ with him.

They confirmed that they’re now friends with Russell, with Kyle gushing: ‘He’s the greatest bloke!’

It comes after Russell made headlines in July this year, when he reportedly walked out of a live interview with Loudest Voice stars Sienna Miller and Naomi Watts.

According to Page Six, the Kiwi-Australian star had a midday meltdown while appearing on the AOL Build Series in the US, storming out of the studio while the live show was taping over comments made about Roger Ailes by host Ricky Camilleri.

Russell got rave reviews for his portrayal of Roger in the Showtime series, The Loudest Voice.

‘It was harmless, but Russell threw himself into a rage as soon as he heard it,’ said a source.

‘It had not been pre-approved by his people. He refused to walk out on the stage. He was screaming at people and then just stormed out onto the street.’

The actor’s rep disputed this account however, saying in a statement: ‘This is not correct. Russell did not “freak out,” and there was no “curse-filled tirade.” He simply made the decision not to do the interview following the host’s intro.’

A rep for Build echoed that statement, saying: ‘Our experience with Russell at our studio was completely fine. There was no “meltdown.” No animosity whatsoever. He simply chose not to go on stage fearing we had a bias. That is really the end of it.’
