Kyle and Jackie O reveal their worst ever celebrity interview

Kyle and Jackie O’s WORST celebrity interview: Radio hosts had an awkward encounter with a major Hollywood star they offered ‘cigarettes and beer’

Radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson have revealed their worst ever celebrity interview.

Speaking on their KIIS FM breakfast show on Tuesday, the pair recalled their awkward chat with Hollywood star Russell Crowe in the early 2000s.

At the time, Russell was at the height of his fame after winning a Best Actor Oscar for his performance as Maximus in Gladiator.

Jackie explained that Kyle had tried to ‘get on Russell’s good side’ by offering him beer and cigarettes as a gift at the start of the interview.

But despite their good intentions, the actor was left ‘offended’ by the gesture.

Jackie recalled: ‘You said, “We’ll take him a carton of beer and a carton of cigarettes and give it to him as a gift,” and he was offended!

‘[Russell] said, “Is this what you think I’m like, is it? Is this all there is to me, is it?”‘

The interview had taken place in a Sydney hotel room when Kyle and Jackie were hosts of the 2Day FM’s Hot 30 Countdown.

Before the encounter, the pair had been warned that Russell could be ‘notoriously prickly’ sometimes.

Looking back, Kyle described the incident as a ‘disaster’, but Jackie acknowledged that Russell ‘warmed up’ to them eventually.

She said: ‘The funny thing is, as the interview went on, he really loosened up and warmed up. And at the end, he said, “Let’s crack open the beers and hang out together,” so we did!’

Almost 20 years later, Kyle and Jackie are now good friends with Russell – but the actor still has a reputation for having a short temper.

He made headlines in July, when he reportedly walked out of a live interview with his Loudest Voice co-stars, Sienna Miller and Naomi Watts.

According to Page Six, he stormed out of the AOL Build Series studio during a live taping over comments made by host Ricky Camilleri about late Fox News chairman Roger Ailes, whom he played in the mini series.

‘It was harmless, but Russell threw himself into a rage as soon as he heard it,’ said a source.

‘It had not been pre-approved by his people. He refused to walk out on the stage. He was screaming at people and then just stormed out onto the street.’

The actor’s rep disputed this account however, saying in a statement: ‘This is not correct. Russell did not “freak out,” and there was no “curse-filled tirade.” He simply made the decision not to do the interview following the host’s intro.’

A rep for Build echoed that statement, saying: ‘Our experience with Russell at our studio was completely fine. There was no “meltdown.” No animosity whatsoever. He simply chose not to go on stage fearing we had a bias. That is really the end of it.’
