Kyle Sandilands discusses Rebel Wilson’s suitability as The Bachelorette

Rebel Wilson has previously joked about being a celebrity Bachelorette.

But during Thursday’s Kyle and Jackie O Show, radio host Kyle Sandilands said the 39-year-old comedian wouldn’t be a realistic candidate.

He asked, ‘Who’s going to show up?’, before crudely asking the male staff members at KIIS FM if they found Rebel attractive.

Australia’s first celebrity Bachelorette was Sophie Monk in 2017, and Rebel later claimed she ‘wouldn’t mind’ following in the singer’s footsteps as she had the ‘same problems’ with dating in the spotlight.

Kyle set the scene on the morning breakfast program: ‘If you guys were single and you showed up on the Bachelorette and thought “Wow! I’m one of the chosen lucky boys, I wonder what beautiful woman is going to be there”, and you get out of the limo and there was Rebel Wilson dressed in a tight sequined dress…’

‘You’re walking up the red carpet ans you’re thinking it’s going to be a Sam Frost, Sophie Monk, or Ali Oetjen, and there’s Rebel,’ he continued, quickly adding: ‘And she is fun, she’s a self-made millionaire, a Hollywood star.’

One male employee bluntly responded: ‘I’d think “holy s**t, how do I get out of this?”‘

'If you showed up on the Bachelorette and thought "I wonder what beautiful woman is going to be there", and you get out and there was Rebel Wilson?' Kyle asked straight men in the office what their reaction would be to finding the comedian on the show's red carpet

‘Oh, you’re so mean!’ Jackie retorted, as the duo asked two more men in the office.

‘Look, all women need some loving from time to time, however I’m a fan of her comedy, but not a fan of her on Bachelorette!’

Another added: ‘I’d stay for a laugh, and then smokebomb as quick as I could.’

Jackie was left shocked, as she said: ‘Aren’t straight men just horrible!’

Rebel, who is best known for her role as ‘Fat Amy’ in the Pitch Perfect franchise, told The Project last year that she ‘wouldn’t mind’ being the next woman to try to find love on the high-rating TV show.

She also told Vogue Australia the same year: ‘I’d totally do the Bachelorette… it would probably ruin my international film career. But wouldn’t it be fun, someone to select male suitors for you.’

In February this year, the 2012 Bachelorette film star claimed starring in the rom-com Isn’t It Romantic sparked her interest in the franchise again.

‘I thought I would be the person making fun of it. But now I want to be the Australian Bachelorette,’ she said to Bustle at the time.

In May, she appeared on Kyle And Jackie O to promote her film The Hustle, where she claimed she previously pitched herself to the network for the role.

‘I offered Channel 10 to do it, but I had a pretty high price tag,’ she said.

While Gogglebox’s Angie Kent was chosen as 2019’s Australian Bachelorette, Rebel said she had recently signed herself up to the celebrity dating app, Raya, in the US.
