Kyle Sandilands mercilessly mocks Grant Denyer’s axed 2Day FM breakfast show

Kyle Sandilands has taken aim at 2Day FM’s axed breakfast show starring Grant Denyer, Ed Kavalee and Ash London.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday afternoon, just minutes after it was announced that the rival show had been cancelled, the shock jock reveled in the news.

‘Another one bites the dust,’ wrote Kyle, 48, in a rare tweet, before adding the not-so-subtle hashtag of ‘see ya’.

Kyle shared a second tweet, reading: ‘Hahahahahaha.’

The KIIS FM star, who hosts rival broadcast The Kyle & Jackie O Show, took another swipe at the struggling 2Day FM earlier this year.

Speaking on air, he said: ‘When our competition fails and they keep replacing show after show after show on 2Day FM, I laugh all day until I fall asleep.’

He continued: ‘It is the biggest joy of my life. I would love all of the other stations to sell themselves, shut themselves down.’

Kyle has long taken pleasure in topping the Sydney radio ratings.

In March, it was announced that Kyle and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson had a 10.1 per cent market share, with 2Day FM’s Grant, Ed & Ash  having just 4.4 per cent at the time.

When the data was released, Nova FM’s Fitzy & Wippa had a 6.4 per cent share.

An announcement was made by the Hit network on Thursday that the 2Day FM breakfast show had been axed, after dismal ratings over the past 18 months.

It was revealed that the morning program will be replaced by a music show, rather than a new breakfast program with fresh hosts.

It is now the sixth breakfast show to be axed by the network in six years.

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia on Thursday, head of the Hit Network, Gemma Fordham, said listeners can expect an ‘exciting and upbeat breakfast alternative’ with their new music show, before thanking Grant, Ed and Ash.

‘A huge thank you must go to our breakfast show team, Grant, Ed & Ash, for the past 18 months – they are absolute professionals, have been a true delight to work with and have contributed to a culture of fun, community and inclusiveness we are proud of at 2Day,’ Gemma said.

Gemma added that Ash will continue to host her weeknight show, Ash London Live, Ed will still fill in for Kate Langbroek when needed, while Grant will ‘make appearances’ around the network.

The last breakfast show for Grant, Ed and Ash will air on Friday, before Jamie Angel takes over the helm with the music show on Monday.
